A stereotypical gamer “geek” who never stands up for himself and is pushed around by his boss meets a manic pixie dream girl who teaches him how to see the world in a different light...at first glance it’s unoriginal and hokey. Although you root for Jason there is something that feels way to Harold and Maude-ish about the story. But the artwork from Stan Yan is phenomenal and Kevin Freeman really does capture the spirit of the fandom “subculture”. You see the characters for all their flaws (Noel makes sure to let us all know when she tags along with Jason to a comic-con like event). But you can’t help but be drawn to them nonetheless. They are mostly characters who feel real and authentic, and their devotion to the subculture and each other is what really makes this graphic novel work.

The story was cute, but the characters don't have much depth. Each individual character just seems to be a stereotype within geek culture, and doesn't really do much to explore, expand on, or defy those stereotypes. Enjoyable enough, but not my favorite.
