"You will be the balance to life, the bringer of difficult times to those who require strengthening, the final word in relieving the world of the pain of life and failure"
It's been forty years since the last Choosing in the world of Azarth. After years living as a poor farmer's son, Pthorn leaves his home, destined to be one of Assier's Chosen Four to cross the seas and discover the truth known only to a select few.
The truth is far different than that believed by the rest of Azarth and, under the guidance of the Oracle of Malcontent, Pthorn leaves as a boy and becomes an unlikely scholar. He emerges as one of the most powerful figures in Azarth with abilities and knowledge beyond his wildest imagination.
Will he use this power for good when he ventures out into the world, or will good intentions and poor decisions lead to devastating consequences?

Good adventure and discovering one’s self Easy to read and follow along the story that’s being told light hearted and sometimes dark fantasy adventure Great characters Great story Give this book a try if your wanting fantasy adventure tell
The Oracle of Malcontent is story with adventure, mystery and a couple of twists and turns. Who could turn down a book with a acid-breathing dragon. I was a beta reader and have since preordered a hardcover copy.
Wow! What a debut novel. If this is setting the tone for things to come I’m excited to keep reading.
The Oracle of Malcontent finds Pthorn from his life in a remote village, when he is suddenly thrown into the great wide world and the shadowy organisation (religion? cabal?) that exerts massive influence over the lives (and deaths) of everyone….and I can’t say more without spoiling the story.
Its clear the author loves the genre and is familiar with its tropes. He takes great care to give the audience the things we love (magic! dragons!) while later playing with and subverting other expectations of what is a fantasy adventure. My main criticism is that now I have to wait for the sequel to find out what happens next, as the path the story took kept me guessing throughout the second half of the book.
The Oracle of Malcontent is a page-turner and a great debut. As a lover of fantasy and specifically the same influences noted by the author like Brandon Sanderson I found this book fits in perfectly with the others on my shelf.
As a Beta reader, I loved this book, and have ordered myself a hard cover copy!. I found myself every opportunity picking up my phone or iPad and settling in for a while to read.
The book gave me laughs, made me shed a tear or two, had me on my toes at a few points, and a twist that somehow made so much sense but escaped my grasp until the last minute! I can’t recommend this book enough! A new author, but brilliant story telling!
Also. I want the dragon as a pet. You’ll see what I mean.
I really enjoyed this story. A great fantasy land with interesting magic, creatures, customs and characters. The story read easily and got more interesting as it went along. As a first foray into published fantasy fiction, Jason has done an excellent job and I eagerly await the next installment!
For an Author's debut story, this one kept me coming back for more. With the final chapters taking a direction I was not expecting, I find myself eager to read the next instalment!
Very good read and I am amazed how Jason developed the story line and introduced new and fantastic concepts. He caused my sleepless nights as I could not put the book down. I can't wait until the next book is available and recommended this book to friends.
