Ain't but Two Days in a Month: The First and the Fifteenth

Rate this book
The stories in Ethel “Ettie” Cook-Wilson’s latest work will take you to a simpler place and time—a time when neighbors knew and looked out for each other, sometimes too much! Ain’t But Two Days in a Month is a glimpse of the folks in Orange Bloom and their doings in and around payday. Some paid what they had to, while others bought temporary happiness and long-term misery. Nevertheless, they all looked forward to The First and the Fifteenth!

I feel sad because, now that I've finished reading this book, I have now read all of Ethel Cook-Wilson's books. I don't usually read short stories, but I absolutely loved this book. Each story had the down-home country, southern flavor that she's becoming famous for and each one had me captivated. Her characters are so real that, once again, I felt like I was reading about my kinfolk. If you like short stories, you will love this book.
