Professional development read.

I've been away for the content for more than a full year, so it was actually a nice generalized overview of Cybersecurity Architecture based concepts to freshen up on.

"I liked it." - 3/5.

"It was okay." - 2/5.

I received a hardback copy of this book as a gift from a previous co-worker clearing out their desk and moving on to a new position. While I appreciate the thoughtful gesture, the content just wasn't very good for the place I am personally at.

Currently enrolled in my Bachelor's Degree Capstone and weeks away from graduation, having a total of nine (9) professional IT certifications from Network+ to CISSP & CASP... there was unfortunately just nothing gained from reading this.

Incredibly broad and touch and go approach to all the materials and Common Bodies of Knowledge (CBKs). Which... if this is how the ISSAP exam is presented, I am extremely thankful that I read this book to support the decision making process to not pursue this exam/certification. I am not in the market for shallow, broad, birds eye view perspectives when it comes to IT subjects. I am at a point where I want something more focused, more specialized, more in-depth. This book and apparently the ISSAP does not offer that.

I honestly cannot recommend this book to seasoned veterans or even just getting started newbies. Maybe someone mid-level career who has a few certs under their belt, but then again... if you go for your CISSP all of this subjects will be covered anyways and you would better off career wise to just get your CISSP.... which is a pre-requisite for the ISSAP...

In closing... I just feel like this book/material has to be relevant place on your individual timeline. You're either too far along to gain anything from this, or your to the left of that and your energy/time would be better invested elsewhere, or this lands right on the sweet spot and actually is a good fit.

Strong on quantity, and therefore overall very good. Essential for building a good baseline knowledge. At times however the quality lags, and the book comes across more as an assortment of topics rather than a coherent entity.
