Unlike the HOP Kindergarten, this version has a DVD instead of a CD. I think the DVD is preferable (nothing fancy, just a cartoonish review of sounds), but, as with the Kindergarten CD, we ended up not using it after awhile. It doesn't really tell you anything you can't go over just as well, and more quickly, using the workbook, and my daughter just likes to get on with it. This set also comes with a Reading Rainbow DVD of Stella Luna as well as two workbooks and several phonics readers book. There are far fewer phonics readers than in the K system, but there are many short stories in the workbooks themselves.

HOP has been an immense help in teaching my daughter to read, and I really appreciate its systematic approach. She really enjoys doing it. I do wish these kits were cheaper, which they perhaps would be without the unnecessary DVD.
