This is a great reference book on the principles and parameters of Transformational Generative Grammar. It provides insights into the principles of transformation from the Deep Structure to the Surface Structure going through explaining the phases of each step.
I used this book as I was preparing for my syntax exam and it was such a great reference.

This book will be entirely incoherent unless you have a background in linguistics with strength in syntactic theory.
