As I'm Italian born and bread I always have fun in reading thriller that talks about Vatican and conspiracies considering that usually really is even more complex. This was a good one and I had a lot of fun. Gripping, action packed and fast paced Recommended. Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
"The Babylon Plot" by David Leadbeater is an action-packed thriller that takes readers on an exciting journey filled with ancient mysteries, non-stop adventure, and high-stakes conspiracies. Leadbeater's storytelling prowess shines through as he weaves a gripping narrative that effortlessly combines historical elements with a contemporary setting.
The vengeful leader of the Amori Cult, Marduk has escaped from a fortified prison in Milan and is planning a vicious attack on the Vatican and the church. His escape was masterminded by the fearsome and dreaded assassin Cassadaga and his girlfriend Ivana. Fueled by hatred for Joe Mason, Marduk is also planning an attack that will decimate his nemesis – killing two birds with one stone. To bring Joe Mason and his team into the foreground, he directs Cassadaga and Ivana to assassinate Cardinal Vallini who is highly respected and revered by Joe Mason and his team of Roxy Banks, Hassel, and Quaid, and led by Sally Rusk, whose father was a close friend of Cardinal Vallini.
Burning with rage following the Cardinal’s death, Joe Mason and the team begin their hunt for Cassadaga and Ivana, eventually in time to reach Marduk and prevent his catastrophic attack on the Vatican. The chase takes them through various parts of Europe in a do-or-die race against time to thwart Marduk’s attack. Joe Mason is aware that his adversary has several assets and resources at his disposal and therefore, one step ahead. Just when Mason realizes that he is within hand reach of Marduk, they are shocked by a series of events that rocks the Vatican City. Can Joe Mason and the team bring down their nemesis and put an end to their adversary Marduk or will he escape once again?
One of the strengths of Leadbeater's writing is his ability to create well-developed characters. Joe Mason is a relatable protagonist, driven by his strong moral compass and relentless pursuit of the truth. Supporting characters such as his loyal team of friends and allies provide depth and camaraderie, making the story more engaging.
The pacing of the book is excellent, with constant momentum that propels the plot forward. The author masterfully balances intense action sequences with moments of respite, where characters can develop and the reader can catch their breath. The vivid descriptions transport the reader to different locations, from bustling cities to ancient ruins and action sequences, enhancing the overall reading experience.
Furthermore, "The Babylon Plot" is heavily researched, showcasing Leadbeater's commitment to historical accuracy. The incorporation of Babylonian history and culture adds an extra layer of authenticity, and the author's attention to detail is commendable.
In conclusion, "The Babylon Plot" is an enthralling adventure that will captivate fans of action-packed thrillers and treasure hunts. David Leadbeater's expertise in crafting compelling narratives, coupled with his extensive research, makes for an entertaining and immersive read. If you're looking for a fast-paced, well-written book that keeps you on the edge of your seat, then "The Babylon Plot" is certainly worth diving into.
Joe and the rest of the Quest Investigations team are back in action. Their fledgling business is getting noticed and they are working flat out. But when Marduk escapes prisons, Joe and the team will have to track down their number one enemy. Again!
As usual no one on the team, or any of their allies, are safe. They'll race across Europe and the UK traying to put Marduk either behind bars or in the ground. They do have some new allies they can rely on but will they manage to work quickly enough to save the Vatican, Christianity and Joe himself.
I really enjoy this series. There is plenty of action and adventure, history and even a smidge of a hint of a potential romance! This crew of misfits put the fun in dysfunctional found family! They're all trying to make up for past sins in their own way - and each dealing with their traumas in their own inimitable way!
The gruesome twosome really gave me the ick - the callous disregard they have for life is horrifying and sadly all too believable. Can't wait to see what awaits the team in book #5!
Complex Heroes + *Dark* Villains + Taut Suspense = Winning Combo. While this particular tale almost seems like the ending of at least Phase 1 of these heroes (and you should absolutely start at the beginning of this series, rather than jumping directly into this book), this is also a book that features some of the most complex and complicated heroes I've come across in fiction - which is a worthy aim as an author, and one Leadbeater pulls off remarkably well. It also has some of the most brutal, sadistic killers I've ever come across in fiction - which is another win, certainly for those who like that particular type of villain. And seriously, from pretty well Page 1, the stakes are sky-high and never really drop, even as different team members get different parts of this particular tale to truly shine in. Truly one of the better crafted team-based adventure series I've ever come across. Very much recommended.
I enjoyed the plot of this book, but the character of Joe Mason was a little too soft for me. Several times he had the drop on the protagonists, but was afraid to use his gun, never mind that the enemy was slashing left and right , not concerned with whom he hurt or killed, but the so-called hero was always questioning whether to use his weapon for fear of striking the wrong person, while the evil doer’s continued their merry way striking at whoever was close to them. It was very frustrating.
Quest Investigations are back, and they aren’t the only one. Marduk is plotting to escape prison and bring about the end to Christianity and after his previous failed attempt is desperate to succeed and take Joe and team with him.
This is a tale of revenge woven around religious themes and action but to compare it to The Da Vinci code is a lazy, easy cliche. This is so much more. Fantastic reading. Can’t wait for the next instalment.
Although a lot of the book rumbles along at a pedestrian pace, the ending is fantastic! The blood and gore filled a lot of the pages along with the bloodthirsty actions of the two featured killers. The fantastic attack in the final is unbelievable and savage. Somehow it ends with the good guys winning. The historical background is extremely interesting.
This instalment is another great follow-up that will surely please fans of the series, with the return of Marduk and an action-packed face-off. The story picks up seamlessly from the previous book, keeping readers on the edge throughout. The fast-paced plot makes for an engaging read that is hard to put down. A satisfying read for anyone who enjoys a thrilling action.
Masons 4th outing, Non stop action, an old enemy returns with the Vatican and Joe and his team in his sights. Well plotted novel that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Love this series roll on book 5. Thanks to Avon books and Netgalley for this review copy.
I always look forward to reading David's books. And The Babylon Plot was as excellent as all his other books. The only thing I don't like is having to wait for the next one.
Overbearing gratuitous violence and poor plot development. Would not expect this kind of poor performance by a trained team. Won't waste any additional money on this author.
David Leadbeater' s stories keep you wanting more. How he finds the ideas and then produces the words to keep you interested is brilliant. I have all the series and I am reading them in order to get the feel of the characters.
Fast paced, all action. Sometimes a little too much bloodshed, but easy to read and quick. Will probably read the next in the series, to keep up to date, probably when I have nothing better.
