Upon finally escaping to Erich’s lodging, the duo of old friends learn that the girl is running from an “unwanted marriage.” Unwilling to cast her aside, they call in for fey and changeling support alike in an attempt to get her out of the capital! The thrilling conclusion to the fourth act of Erich’s min-maxing campaign arrives!
The story of Erich and Cecilia and their attempt to get her out of an unwanted marriage continues. And much like previous volumes the book shines in its depiction of characters and the world with each race feeling distinctively alien to humanity. The twist at the end did not came completely unexpected but was still nicely done. The prose can be at times a bit verbose, and the fight near the end of the book felt a tad too long for my taste (and not new to this volume either). All in all, a good read and I am looking forward to the next volume.
Erich’s mission impossible was to save Cecilia from her “unwanted marriage” in this part 2 of volume 4. I have to say that this was the most exciting book of this series so far, for me at least. It wasn’t perfect and may be a tad too long, but I liked it. I still don’t know where this series is going though.
