Entropy #1

A Message in the Universe

Rate this book
Centuries have passed since the universe began rapidly contracting—the Great Collapse. Now, all that remains of a sprawling cosmos lives on a large, lush planet around which an elusive group of engineers built a forcefield to protect the seed of life.

But who were these mysterious engineers? And why did they choose Samsara?

Magnus, a young physics student struggling to maintain his sanity, can’t seem to stop asking these questions. But when his university is invaded by a neighboring military and one of the engineers that built the forcefield comes to his aid, the answers begin to flow.

As Magnus is thrown into the chaos of war, he slowly comes to discover the universe's darkest there was a message written into the very fabric of the universe— written into the laws of physics themselves.

When Magnus learns who wrote the message and what it says, it slowly dawns on him why his world is plagued with so much war, why the mysterious engineers who built the forcefield really did it, and of all the planets out there—why they chose Samsara.

I'm not going to give you a description of the book... That's what the amazon page is for... but I will say this:

This book legitimately has one of the most interesting and well developed fictional worlds I've ever read about. You can tell the author has put in some serious thought - like J.R.R. Tolkien level thought - into creating the species and all of their particularities.

The story itself has some really fantastic characters who are also flush with personal quirks and unique characteristics. When you get to the end, you are certainly going to be asking for more!!! You will WANT to know where they end up, what happens next, etc.

The way the author describes things and gives his characters such interesting dialogue and specific ways of speaking really make it something special in the genre. This book is absolutely the first of a series and I am anxiously awaiting the next piece in the saga.

If you love science fiction (or really any adventure/action fiction to be honest), you will get enjoyment from this, I'm sure. Enjoy!!!

The book, unfortunately, did not resonate with me. I contemplated the prospect of reading further into the series, but long before the completion of this one, I found myself eager to delve into something different. The characters failed to captivate or appeal to me, and their development seemed lacking. The narrative was underwhelming and only picked up the pace in the final chapters. The setting, an oddly constructed world, didn't appear thoroughly fleshed out. A peculiar concept of 'mental abilities' was introduced, which however remained inadequately explained. I harbored a sense that the antagonist was not entirely villainous, and conversely, suspected the leader of the supposed 'heroes' was far from being virtuous., though I am disinclined to explore the next installment to verify this suspicion.

A little disjointed because of the flashbacks giving the back story to the current day story

Interesting concept, a little hard to follow because of the many references characters, some mentioned in just one chapter to set up a back story. A summary of characters would be a big help. The alternating back stories between the last and the present gets a little hard to follow but does explain many of the current events that are being encountered. Each of the chapters is stand alone and tend to cover a specific point in time. It might .and it more readable for some by reading the chapters I. Chronological order rather then numerical order. Interesting story line will be interested to see where the author takes it.

Interesting book and good characters

This was an interesting book. The characters were detailed, there was a lot of action. It took a bit of catching up with the story for the time perspective jumps to make sense, but once you are caught up, it is like reading multiple books all filling in the context and story at once and it works. I recommend this book.

Well written and unique!

Second time reading this book by Chris Harris. I've become very attached to this series and recently reread this and the second book in the Entropy series. The story is filled with great and detailed world building, you can tell that the author have really been able to create a living and breathing universe in hos book. Following Magnus journey as he discovers him self and the secrets of the universe. The many characters throughout the story is well written and they all follow an interesting character arch, will keep an eye on the next installment by Chris Harris.
