The guide is not that helpful. As the PMD Pro was very helpful at the beginning of my NGO's career, I started reading the Program DPro after a year as I progressed from project management toward program management. Unfrtantly, the guide didn't provide anything I haven't seen in the PMD Pro or during my work.
The main issue is that the guide contains a lot of repetition and bluff. Most of its useful content could honestly be summarised in about ten pages that focus on how program management differs from project management and how existing tools can be scaled or integrated across multiple projects.
Moreover, the guide feels somewhat outdated. Since 2019, the humanitarian and development sectors have evolved dramatically, particularly after the contexts of Syria, Ukraine, and others, where NGOs now operate more like structured organisations rather than traditional emergency actors. The guide doesn’t yet reflect these changes in management models or coordination systems
Thus, if you are already working in programs, it gonna be a waste of your time... also not recommended for beginners, as it would make no sense if you have no PM experience.
