Twelve years of heartache. Twelve acts to uncover the truth.
“...and born of my torment, a plan conceived: daring, dastardly, and a touch divine, a frantic clutch at fate’s unruly ruffs, that the great black hole of despair might not swallow me whole.”
Twelve years after his disappearance, Jack Sutton is spotted jogging through a park. Tortured by questions of Jack's unknown fate, Camden Slade’s anguish takes a turn for the reckless, and she conceives a plan to discover what happened to him. With the help of two friends and a hired gun, Camden sets her strategy in motion, a plan that requires her full arsenal of skills as a fraud examiner and turns the tables in her favor. When things start to fall apart, Camden finds herself scrambling to avoid detection and hide her wrongdoings. She is finally able to ask the long-awaited questions of her heart, but is she prepared for the answers she receives or to face the soul-altering savagery of what she has done?
The story plot moved along quickly with twists and turns that kept me humming. I read this book in two sittings, enjoying every moment, allowing myself to be transported by the magic in her words. Rasmussen is truly a weaver of words. I especially looked forward to her journal entries; her words were balm to my heart. This is one book I will read again. Soon.
I loved this book. It unfolded without giving the ending away. There is heartache, bitterness, love, forgiveness, and most importantly self discovery of loving yourself above all else. It is a beautiful message of when you love yourself, you can love others more truly. It was sad, funny, and thought provoking. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting a good read.
I wanted to like this book. I truly did. It came highly recommended. I found the storyline hard to follow and repetitive. I found myself really disliking the main characters and the actions she took to make up for her heartache. I wanted to see some repercussions for her actions and I felt she just got away with it all. The ending was meh and felt like it dragged on and on. I finished it to give it a true shot and out of respect for the person who recommended it to me. If not for that I would’ve had it in my DNF pile.
This story is full of intrigue. Read past my bedtime many nights. Cam is a fraud investigator who lost her boyfriend 12 years earlier when he up and disappeared. 12 years later someone sees him . She plans a 12 part plan to drive him back to her so she can find out why he walked away. Her past , his past, a current investigation and clues missed years ago all lead to a page turning story.
