As a fan of L. T. Ryan's writings, I decided to give this series a chance. I have thoroughly enjoyed the first 3 books and intend to read the others. Cassie Quinn is not your 'nomal' police heroine. She has skills that make her unique. An emotionally vulnerable character with a disturbing past. Teased with the line from the movie "6th Sense," Cassie tries to adapt to her peculiar skill. She sees dead people. A good friend, a police detective, the two team up to solve a variety of unsolved crimes. The Audible book that covers the first 3 books is excellent.
I gave each book a separate review : 1. Path of Bones, the first in the Cassie Quinn series of mysteries, we are introduced to Cassie who has the ability to see and interact with ghosts or spirits of the departed. Cassie is employed as a art preparator at the Savannah College of Art and Design's Museum of Art but works with the Savannah police in her spare time, solving crimes. As the story unfolds we learn about how Cassie "acquired" her gift and has had many challenges in her life and relationships because of it. This first mystery has Cassie working with detective Harris who needs her help to find a possible serial killer but is still unsure about Cassie's abilities even though Cassie's police friend detective David Klein has solved many crimes with her help. The story is engaging and well written. Even the way that Cassie interacts with "paranormal" events such as dreams or visions or spirits has an air of authenticity - the messages are often not clear and do not give precise answers. Because it's a series, the story ends by closing one case, but leaves something else hanging. I very much enjoyed this book and give it 5 out of 5 stars. 2. Whisper of Bones : As with the first in the series of Cassie Quinn mysteries, this second book draws us deeper into Cassie's life and challenges with her family. She makes some progress with the mystery that was left hanging at the end of book one and takes up another investigation of a serial killer, working with detectives David Klein and Adelaide Harris. This investigation is a bit of a wild ride with lots of twists. In between the investigations, Cassie struggles with how to reconnect with her sister and her parents and to share with them about her paranormal abilities. Again, the same loos end from Cassie's past is left hanging. Will she find closure in book 3 ? Stay tuned. I also very much enjoyed this second book in the series and give it 5 out of 5 stars. 3. Symphony of Bones : Third in the the series of Cassie Quinn mysteries, we meet Cassie's parents and come closer to closing the mysteries in Cassie's personal past. This second book draws us even deeper into Cassie's life and challenges as she and her sister visit her parents in Charlotte. She makes much more progress with the mystery in her personal past and is drawn into another in the mysterious death of a state senator's son in Charlotte. Because she doesn't know anyone in the police department in Charlotte, how will she go about offering her "paranormal" information? Again, the mystery takes on many twist and turns. A great ride. We are left with a cliff hanger at the end that absolutely requires one to get the next book in the series. Another great read by L.T. Ryan, I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
I am really enjoying this series. Cassie was fabulous in this one. It's great to see how she's evolved in her ability. I am glad her family knows and the details of Sarah's disappearance have been revealed. Now because of Harris's call....I am on to the next one. David. I have to know what happened. I suspected something was wrong.
I read the first three books in the Cassie Quinn and I thought at first I usually don’t read this type of story. Boy was I surprised. I read nonstop and finished the collection wanting to read more. The author draws you in and you really get to know Cassie.
The Cassie Quinn series, the first 3 books - loved them.
Spellbinding, intriguing, kept me wanting to help her solve the mystery. Can't wait to read number 4 and the affect losing her police friend will have on her.
I felt sympathy for Cassie, but frustration that she can't get it together and tell her family and others about her gift. For my money I'd rather re-read Charlaine Harris's Harper Connelly mysteries.
These first three in a series had a very good continuing plot line. Some thing gets solved then another mystery is added. They really need to be read in order. Good characters, too.
I normally would have stopped reading once I found out Cassie sees ghosts. I kept reading and thinking I would get spooked, I didn't. Her character is not spooky at all, so here I am ready to continue reading the series!
I enjoyed following Cassie's journey to discover herself and her abilities and learning to embrace them. I can't wait to continue to read about more of Cassie's experiences.
I don't know if I missed something but I'm still trying to find out why she is the way that she is (don't want to give any spoilers away). But otherwise I thought they were good books.
