Most people know that today’s school systems aren’t the best they can be, but few have looked into the exact reasons why. In this book, the author peels back the layers of our biological learning capacities to reveal just why the school system is not only not teaching us what we need, but also why it could be damaging our ability to learn in the first place.
Using modern examples of research as well as looking into previous studies that focused on neurology and biology, the author shows how the modern way of forcing knowledge into a student’s brain to make them do what you want is not working. Even corporations use the schools’ tactics, and then everybody wonders why it is having little positive effect. Perhaps it is time to truly consider how to improve the learning experience, and knowing about the learning code may be a great first step in building a better system.
Though I found many good points in this book, I will admit that it has an evolutionary bias. Those sections are tedious and fuels denial that there is an ultimate, intelligent Creator, while using terms that make evolution seem like an intelligent creator. You can’t have it both ways. But besides that, this book is a great look into the processes of learning and the coded way that God has wired different people to learn differently. If you want to learn more about the processes of learning, this is the book for you.
This is the encyclopedia of learning—a truly remarkable and transformative work. Drawing on over 30 years of research, JW Wilson challenges traditional education paradigms while providing deeply insightful and innovative strategies for modern learning.
The book’s strength lies in its foundation of biology and neuroscience, which makes it a more advanced and intellectually rigorous read. Its professional tone and vocabulary reflect the depth of the subject matter, offering a thorough exploration of the principles needed to align educational practices with the brain’s natural learning processes.
Cracking the Learning Code is one of my favorite books on learning, period. It transcends being a mere guide and becomes a timeless reference on modern education in an ever-changing world. This is not just a book—it’s a paradigm shift that will stand the test of time for anyone passionate about learning and behavioral change.
Cracking the learning code should be a textbook taught in high school. There are so many bits of information about the human mind that I was astounded to learn. It gave me a better understanding of my brain and how it works as well as the mind of my son’s. It’s one of those books like Meditations by Marcus Aurelius. You can just open up to any page and find something beneficial, inspiring and useful that can apply to your life. I also enjoyed the author’s style of writing…. direct but personable, informative but not boring and complex but easily understood. If you want to understand how our brains work optimally for you and your children then read this book. It’s brilliant!
