Goethean Holistic Science; Three Orders of Science We Use Every Day: Science as if iNtuitive Feeling and Cultural Creatives Mattered
Ninth revision, second book edition.This is new Science, as if iNtuitive Feeling and Cultural Creatives Mattered (that's you and me).If we reach back 250 years, to the German playwright, poet and scientist, Johann Goethe (GER-tah) (1749-1832), Three Sciences are First Order Science ~ What is beneficial at the personal level of each person, all the way down to the cells, DNA and genes. "Is this true and beneficial for me now?, or NOT true nor beneficial for me now?" Second Order Science ~ 2 + 2 = 4 must be true for everyone, in all times and all places. "What is beneficial, worth knowing, for practical survival, technology, commerce and profit?"Linear, sequential logic is the main problem solving tool on the physical-material plane; also, the basis for symbolic thinking, thinking outside the five-sensory math.Third Order Science ~ "Have we considered the needs of all stakeholders for the next seven generations? What is safe, possible, permitted and allowed now for the good of the greatest number?" An expanded science paradigm solves more current problems and makes more of our own psyche coherent, than the old one Order alone. Three Sciences make a safe place for both "hard science" skeptics and holistic-humanistic activity. This is the end of "war" between Soft and Hard sciences. When we expand our thinking to Three Sciences, "hard science" falls naturally into place as one third of a holistic science paradigm. To avoid Second Order Science to dominate excessively, let's we use all three logical levels daily. The biggest Goethean Science experiments have been invisible, hidden in plain sight, since 1920. Goethe's concepts make Waldorf K-12 education and holistic healthcare activity more coherent and credible. They were already Goethean--we simply did not recognize this. Goethe was first in modern times to balance the experimenter with the experiment. Goethe was very likely our first modern holistic thinker.Future generations will eventually be taught like Science is the art of asking questions, using each new experiment to refine your question. - What questions interest you? Any question fascinate you sufficiently to live with and explore? About bodily health? About Nature? About other people? About the contents of your psyche? - Immerse yourself in observing-learning your subject or topic. What patterns of observable facts are present?- What patterns have others uncovered here prior to your coming? What new patterns may exist which you may be first to perceive?How are your study and observations changing you?- Goethe says, perform only two-sided experiments, experiments honoring what Inspires you, what you think, feel, Intuit, Imagine. How are your study and observations changing you? To paraphrase Goethe, only two-sided experiments honor how souls, as “citizens of eternity” (Dostoevsky), grow in the human experience. If we LEAVE the experimenter OUT, we promote one-sided science, thinking separated from feeling, from imagination, intuition, and from biology. Goethe’s two-sided experimental method is one of few insurances again becoming an isolated, mad scientist; or, a paid enabler of corporate-military Team Machine agendas.

Goethean Holistic Science (GHS) is a 2014 expanded science paradigm. It is capable of replacing the old, one-sided, linear-sequential, left-brain-only, 1800s rational-materialistic science paradigm.
This is a good start, an accessible introduction, to an admittedly huge topic.
GHS builds on Goethe's whole-brained approach, it's possible now to reframe science to honor both external, objective perceptions; and, internal subjective perceptions. These are simply two different Orders of Science. A third Order is required to add the dimension of ethics-morals-values. In this way, both left-brain and right-brain perceptions can be honored. In this way both gut-brain Feeling and head-brain Thinking can be acknowledged and honored.
GHS is science as if iNtuitive Feeling values and Cultural Creatives mattered. If you are reading this, very likely this includes you.
As in MBTI, in GHS both Feeling and Thinking are rational functions.
In GHS First and Third Order Sciences bracket Second Order "hard" Science:
First Order Science ~ The value, validity and benefits of subjective perceiving, experience and intelligence. This is the domain of what is true in the domain of one individual at a time; hence, this is the realm of individual choice; and, the realm of psychology. "Is X true, beneficial and valuable for me now?" Or, Is X NOT true, nor beneficial, for me now?"
Third Order Science ~ "For the next seven generations, have the needs of all stakeholders been considered?" and, "What is safe, possible, permitted and allowed now, for the highest good of the greatest number?" This is the domain of the science of values, morals and ethics. This is the domain neglected, dismissed, suppressed, repressed by corporate-consumerism religion.
Between these two is Second Order Science: 2 + 2 = 4. Second Order Science facts must be true for everyone, at all times and at all places. This is the science and technology. This is what is beneficial and worth knowing, for practical survival, commerce and profit?" Raise your hand if you wish to go back to living without indoor plumbing and indoor hot-cold running water. I don't see many hands. Second Order Science made indoor plumbing possible. It comes from left-brain, head-brain, intelligences. These are honored in GHS as Second Order Science, the science of Galileo-Descartes-Newton.
In this way, Three Orders of Science provide boundaries and guardrails to keep technology going forward align with subjective reality; and, the reality of human values, morals and ethics.
In the language of Best Practices in Healthy Group Process, Third Order Science provides a container of values-morals-ethics needed to moderate and modulate the excesses of First Order Science (foolishness, fooling yourself) and Second Order Science (Heinz 57 varieties of Frankenstein monsters).
The pendulum swing back towards more balance between right and left-brain, head and gut-brain science--whole-brained science--was begun by Goethe, furthered by Rudolf Steiner, then Ernst Lehrs and now GHS. In this scheme, Goethe was our first modern holistic (whole-brained) experimentalist.
