When sworn enemies face an even deadlier threat, will their lifelong conflict cut off their only chance at survival? Minx' entire existence had been condensed into a mere three actions.
Load.
Aim.
Fire.
The dragons have fled and Torrent has invaded Paddling Ground. And it’s all Minx’ fault. If she had just slayed a dragon like she was tasked to do and brought its hide back to fuel their wards everything would be okay.
Instead…
Her mother is dead.
The Fae continue to die.
The war is getting worse
Kaleb is gone.
But worse than all, she still needs a dragon hide to protect her people.
And Minx is out of time.
Will Minx find a way to save her people in time or will this be the end of the Fae?

OMG this is simply awesome! A great second book is this amazing epic series that once you pick it up you are not getting anything else done! I absolutely adore Minx and Kaleb and was more then happy to join them on their extraordinary journey filled with adventure, drama, intrigue, romance, magic, dragons, pain and joy plus so much more. This is a fantastic fantasy read and I am eager to read the next book.
This is book two of the Heir of Dragons series and sees Minx and Kaleb now back in their home territories, as if nothing had ever been between them. Minx is missing the connection she had with Kaleb, but is too busy trying to protect her home, Paddling Ground and the Trading Center, that she is almost too exhausted to think of him, other than to wonder if he will come back to help them or not. Small groups of the factions who sided with the dark mage Torrent and Valry of the Wuff, have continued to attack their stronghold. She knows that there must be more of the enemy out there and is just waiting for Torrent to play his hand. What he is planning, none of them seem to know. As larger forces seem to be amassing and attacking, Minx is seeing the number of well-trained Fae diminishing every day, leaving her as the most experienced archer left! She has thoughts of this all being her fault, as she couldn’t simply do as she was told and get a dragon skin! All these deaths and injuries are on her and weighing her down. All she is doing it seems, is manning the wall, picking up arrows from her quiver, loading and then letting loose, until her fingertips are bleeding and everything aches!
Mix has her Faelyr companion Mau, to watch her back and keep her safe, but even she can’t get Minx out of her depressive slump and feelings of hopelessness. All she can think after almost failing to hold back a larger force, is that they desperately need the dragons assistance, but she has seen no sign of Kaleb or any other dragons and has no way of communicating with him. The dragon’s home is days travel away in the Talon mountain range. If the Fae stronghold falls, the dragons will be the enemy’s next focus, but they are stubborn beings and refuse to break with centuries old divisions between their factions. Minx has been receiving more messages from Lake Helio, telling her that time is almost out and she must get a dragon skin if there is to be any chance of reinstating the wards protecting their most precious commodity, the very magic they draw upon for life! Minx believes their only option is for her to approach Kaleb and the other dragons for assistance and to work on the alliance it seemed that she and Kaleb had formed. Avoiding all the small camps of the enemy forces between her home and Kaleb’s may be difficult, but her main problem will come as she trespasses on dragon lands and breaks the treaty between their people!
More dangers are to come, as an old foe turned friend, Alla, comes into the mix, but whether she can be trusted or not is unclear. Dark magic is in play and it is being used to control fighters from many different factions, who wouldn’t ever work together normally. Even Alla says she is under Torrent’s control after he forced her to come with his army, to save Minx and Kaleb’s lives. Whether Minx and Mau can get Kaleb’s and the other dragons to help the Fae, is debatable and she will have more to deal with against the Dark Mage Torrent and his evil plans. Will the initial chemistry and friendship between Minx and Kaleb get another chance to be rekindled, or will the Fae fall without the help of the dragons might? Lots of action throughout this book, battling far past exhaustion, feelings having to be put aside and immense pain to gain what they really want. Minx puts herself in several dangerous positions to try and save her people, but she alone isn’t enough! Great pace and action, with lots of twists and turns you don’t expect, as the weight of her world rest on Minx’s shoulders. I can’t wait to see what will come next and what issues they all face next, with black magic in the mix. I received an ARC copy of this book from the author and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
"How to Save a Fae" is more of the same from the first book in the Heir of Dragons series. That's not all bad because the first book was very good; but, I thought that this second installment would provide fresh insight or a more enhanced storyline.
In this installment, once again, the fae are under attack by Torrent and his minions. The fae numbers are diminishing as well as the protective barrier provided by Heilo Lake. The lake continues to ask for a dragon hide and Minx feels that she has no choice but to go to the dragons and try to get them to assist her. Unfortunately, they were not expecting the dragons to be so hostile to her return to their encampment. Disappointed, Minx leaves to return to her people and the continuing battle. She is capture and finds an ally in Alla. They launch a plan to steal a magical amulet being worn by one of her enemies in the hopes she will be able to use it against them.
It appears to be one battle after the other with no real progress being made. Quite honestly, I was beginning to grow bored toward the end and couldn't wait to get to the end of the book. I can only surmise that this book was "filler" or an effort by the author to extend the series but I am hoping that the next and final book will make great inroads toward providing some unique and interesting events in the story.
In the words of Michael Jackson, “ This is It”. This is the book you’ve been waiting for. It’s fantasy at it very best. I dare you not to fall in love with this story, to be consumed by the journey of Minx and Kaleb, the main characters. We can share in their voyage of discovery, feel their pain in their battle against evil but also share in their joy of togetherness. Enough waffle from me. It is a wonderful story, still to continue, but with hope in the characters hearts. It has dragons and magic , romance and intrigue. So much a page turner. What’s not to like. So looking forward to the next book.
Just finished this phenomenal installment, feeling like "love coquers all" 🤗🥰 Can't stress enough how much I adore Minx and Kaleb, my heart feels full of reading their love story... Despite all the awful things happening around them and even when it seems they almost don't make it, something comes to their aid and saves the day... Fate?... I hope so, because I need them together and happy, can't wait to read the next book!!! 😍 ❤️
Minx and Kaleb are back in J.A. Culican’s How to Save a Fae (Heir of Dragons Book 2) and, well, wow. This is an extraordinary fantasy novel with a wonderfully complex yet easy to follow plot filled with action, adventure, thrills, romance, loss, pain, suffering and success. Pretty heady stuff but pretty perfectly served up and totally fun to read. Also easy to highly recommend.
Enjoyed the story very much, although at times had to put it down, too intended. The ending was splendor, and surprising. Looking forward to the nextvone.
