If you are an architect, mechanical engineer, or robotics/mechatronics engineer, you may need to learn FreeCAD 3D computer-aided design (CAD) modeling program. FreeCAD is one of the most commonly used CAD software used in architectural & BIM, designing mechanical engineering parts, and robot simulations and it is supported by Linux, Windows, and Mac OS.
This book has been written on the basis of latest version of FreeCAD. The main advantages of this book is simple in language and clear screenshot.
It reminds me one incident that happened five years ago. We were talking with colleagues about personal wiki software, and since everyone was using different tool, we’ve decided to do a techtalk with presentation for others.
The goal of the techtalk was to show interesting features of “your” software and most importantly, your workflow. How do you organize information, what interesting patterns are you using, what are some cool usages.
The first colleague booked hour and half for his techtalk, and then he just .. showed every feature of his software.
He spent hour talking about the toolbar; this is how you open file. This is how you save file. This is how you make text bold. This is how you make text not-bold. Literally methodically going through each menu item. Then he spent maybe a minute on how he is using it “I write everything there”.
Well. This book is the same. Just listing of menu items. Literaly the things you can see with your own eyes. “This is a icon for circle tool. You can use it to draw circles. In order to draw circle, you first download and install FreeCAD, then click on the circle tool.” Really. Done for each and every menu item.
This book completely misses the point that when you want to learn FreeCAD, you can see all of this with your own eyes, and what you want is highlevel patterns. How do I use this to design my parts? What are the good and bad practices? How can I become more effective and do more? What are some alternative workflows, like sheet metal bending workflow” not “how do I click on the circle tool?”
And not having pages numbered and using some kind of wtf font rendering makes it trully useless.
