A sick little girl. A cabal that believes her possessed by an avenging spirit. A detective who will stop at nothing to protect her.
When Adam is retained to confirm the veracity of a young heiress’s family tree, it sounds like the simple case he needs to break the monotony of life on a Mediterranean island. But it soon becomes clear that others wish to stake a claim to the girl’s fortune, sponsored by an organization with one foot in the occult. And something as inconvenient as a private detective will not stand in their way.As this group calls upon a shadowy killer known as the Pale Boy, Adam’s attention turns to the girl herself, learning her illness is viewed by some as “possession” by a spirit intent on righting wrongs from Porajmos, or “the Devouring”, the Romani genocide inflicted by Nazi Germany. And even those who profess to represent her may not hold her best interests at heart. Delving into a decades-old secret that people will murder to protect, Adam must fight smart and fight hard—against a seemingly supernatural mercenary, against people of unfathomable greed, and against his own darkening nature. The Blood of Empty Men is the third in the Adam Park series, although all these novels are self-contained stories, without the need to know what came before.
A.D. Davies grew up in Leeds, West Yorkshire. In high school his ambition was to be a writer of horror novels, although in adult life he became an avid fan of crime fiction. He also dabbles in action-adventure.
After a long stint in an unsatisfying job, he attended the University of Leeds where he attained a degree in creative writing.
He is well-travelled, his favourite destinations being New Zealand and Vietnam, which have influenced his writing immensely, especially obvious in his Adam Park novel.
For now, however, globe-trotting is taking a back-seat to raising his two children and writing, although he hopes to one day combine all three.
He now resides in Staffordshire, UK, with his wife and two children.
This is the first time I have been the first reader to write a review. This is my 3rd Adam Park book and it is just as good as the first two. The stories are deep and the friends of Adam, Harry and Jess, stay in touch with each other even when they disagree on Adam's approach. Adam is struggling with his inner demons which were unleashed when he was kidnapped as a young man. He feels deeply for the underdog and somehow gets sucked into complicated issues more so than any simple private detective should. In this story he is trying to determine if a young girl is possessed or if it is something more sinister. His investigation is to begin where the other detective's left off. It is a complicated story of revenge, love, old hatreds from WWII and much traveling around Europe to get to the bottom of it. As you would expect, he solves the issue and even is reunited with old friends. The writer is superb at weaving a tale and never letting the reader figure it all out. He is adept at keeping the characters moving and you just never can tell what will happen next. Adam Park is a strong character along the lines of John Reacher and even Harry Bosch. Give this author a try and you, like me, will buy all the books published.
