When a conversion attempt leads Jake’s partner Liffi to erect a heathen temple to the old goddess Freya, the fanatics of Woden’s Brethren are furious. As their retaliation sets a string of terrorist atrocities in motion, Jake and Liffi are saved by the old goddess, but their differing philosophies begin to drive them apart. Torn between ways old and new, the two must use their powers to bring down the enemy.

But as their own relationship hangs in the balance, can they find a way to stop the subversive organization for good?

Retrocognitive Jake Conley is a paranormal investigator with a difference. Whilst freely admitting this is not my usual genre, I know a good book when I read one and this one definitely qualifies as a very good book. While his partner Lillif attempts to build a temple in honour of the goddess Freya, she becomes the target of a group of right wing nazi extremists, putting her and Jake's lives in danger. In an attempt to bring the extremists to justice, Jake finds himself recruited by the security services and becomes a very special, special agent. Lillif meanwhile finds herself admitted to the world of the elves, where aided by the goddess Freya, she learns to shape shift, becoming a beautiful falcon.
There’s so much action in the book, it's impossible for me to go into details without spoiling the plot for other readers.
Let me just say that Liffi fulfils a childhood wish and captures the heart of the king of the elves. Exciting stuff throughout. As for the bad guys, they are really bad and deserve everything they get in this book that positively pulsates when our intrepid duo really get to work on them.
