Ian's parents were murdered. The culprit isn't human—he's a robot.
Androids used to be Ian’s passion. Now, he sees them as mindless killing machines to be feared.
After Ian's adoptive family kick him out for being transgender, Ian finds himself homeless without a soul to turn to for help—which is when he meets Gilbert: a mysterious detective who treats Ian to breakfast one fateful day.
Gilbert tells Ian about a case close to his heart. He drags Ian into adventures far beyond Ian's wildest dreams. And then, Ian falls in love. But it is wrong. So wrong. Because Gilbert is an android, and Ian swore he'd never trust another machine again.

At first Ian seems to be just a broken and hopeless guy. When he meets Gilbert his first reaction is distrust and fear like with every assistant (android). After all they are the ones that took everything from him, betrayed his trust and turned his life into a nightmare.
But then, as things progress, getting to know Gilbert makes Ian remember a past made of happy and hopeful times. And finds himself more and more drawn to him.
Saki, is also in a path of revenge. She is trapped in a situation that makes her feel stuck and used. Then she meets Lanre and together with him, maybe the motivation to unstock herself too.
Both friends (Ian and Saki) seemed to have surrendered to a bleak destiny. But instead they just may find themselves in a path of redemption brought to them by unlikely allies.
From time to time, they wonder what happened to each other and hope that they will meet again. Little does Ian know that finding her may help him and Gilbert solve the case they are working on. But when they finally meet, will they find themselves being allies fighting for the same cause or will they be on opposite sides?
I enjoyed the book very much. The pace is good and as you get to know the main characters more is easy to like them. Their interactions are fresh and funny and have a slight old bickering couple feel to them.
There are still some things left a bit in the dark mainly on Saki’s side, that will surely be addressed in following books. But overall, it was a nice read ☺️
