I don't actually remember who recommended this book but really happy I had the chance to read it. Short and very informative. It explains the first hard steps and how to get through them with high benefit.
The book is available free on Ali Spittel's website.

A short and concise collection of advice for novice programmers that goes into the why, how and who to ask. The extra-good thing is that a lot of these principles are things you can use outside of programming too.

It's free, it's short, it's very helpful. What's not to love?

I spent most of this book vigorously nodding along and going "yes yes yes yes YES".

Gorgeously laid out, quick to read, filled with information... great for a quick pickup book to keep you inspired and coding. <3

Fantastic book. It is short, but includes all the important information. Ali shares some great insight on what she wishes she knew before learnig to code and as I am currently struggling to learn, it is definitely some great information.
