A Twelve Step Program to Omnipotence

Rate this book
A Marvel fan finds himself reincarnated into the MCU. Great, right? Not so much when half the universe will be wiped out by a purple alien with a poor grasp of recource acquisition and distribution before you're thirty. So, what's a puny human to do? What is he willing to lose? Michael McCole's journey will be long and painful, but that's fair. After all, no-one ever said becoming a god is easy.

Showcases a literal step by step process with little plot, character development, or overarching goal (despite claims to the contrary). The only reason this “plan” exists is because the butterfly annoyingly doesn’t exist in this universe. On top that every step of the plan (up until I dropped it) is a shallow poorly thought out action sequence despite the protagonists claim to advanced intellect and over 20 years of planning.

The author clearly has a great deal of writing talent and skill. He was able to craft a pretty entertaining story with the combat scenes being especially impressive (albeit a bit corny at times). But my main gripe with the story is the SI himself. I understand this was always meant to be a power fantasy type story but I felt that the protagonist gained power far too quickly and easily. It would have been interesting to see him experience more struggle and challenge before attaining such a high level of power. The serum alone at the very beginning of the story made him pretty overpowered. But more importantly, I think a lot more could have been done to add depth to Michael's character. He felt a bit shallow and the character development was slightly ham-fisted, in my opinion.

Pretty good story overall if a bit long.
