Still reeling from the breakup with his girlfriend Shelly, Michael focuses all his attention navigating his father's world. but the future may not hold everything he's hoped for. All his life, Michael has longed to know his biological father, but now that he's living in his house, he realizes proximity might be enough to bring them together.
Former librarian and teacher, Laura Moe now writes full-time. she is the author of BREAKFAST WITH NERUDA (Simon & Schuster/Merit Press, 2016) She is also the author of BLUE VALENTINES and THE LANGUAGE OF THE SON.
I was so happy that there was a continuation of where Blue Valentines left off but this left me longing for a more concrete resolution... which I really hope comes to fruition at some point. Overall, still a great read.
Overall this was a cute series following Michael; a young man whose life has tossed him many obstacles to overcome, some he’s had a hand in creating and others he had no control over. This book had a lot of lovely poetry to it and the writing was lyrical, which I adored. I feel like Michael’s story ended kinda abruptly, I would have liked to see him build more of a relationship with his father then how things all ended, but I also see that sometimes life doesn’t go the way we want it so is realistic, which I admired. I’m glad this character was pushed out of his confront zone and forced to kinda find his own without Shelly in this novel. The ending is left open to interpretation so I choose to believe Shelly and Michael stayed friends and he went off to college!
