An account of the principal phases in the development of the English banking system, and an analysis of the financial structure of the economy of the UK. The book focuses in detail on the regulatory and supervisory aspects of the UK banking system, and the interactions between the structural aspects of the banking and supervisory system.
An excellent overview, but presumes a large degree of expertise. Not all acronyms are defined in the text, and a strong knowledge of finance, if not the UK system specifically, is assumed.
That said, this work is insightful, comprehensive, and generally an excellent place to start for a finance professional, lawyer or academic looking for an overview of UK banking/finance legal and regulatory practice.
I didn't find the book as detailed as I wished. The initial chapters provided a nice summary of how banking system has changed since the 80s but the parts on structuring and current credit crisis seemed lacking in detail. The book seems more for the purpose of providing an overview than an insight.
