Pretty pictures, stating the obvious.

The style of the author irked me; instead of extolling natural living for the sake of itself, she kept emphisizing the fashionability. It is written like a gossip magazine: superficial and catching on hypes. There was really nothing interesting to garner here, as it was too generalized - and she was way too forgiving of plastic usage. In that, the book feels outdated. Besides that, it focuses on a modern style, which I dislike. It shines through that the author is not a purist: writing that some choices would probably be too drastic and some concessions will have to be made - which felt like self-gratification.

I felt like I was reading J.K. Rowling: shallow pop-y content riding the hype, with personality-revealing narration-style. It felt like this book was written for back-then Boomer, hip, middle-aged women at the nail/hair-salon.

Her most (and only) quoted work is my favourite on this topic: The Natural House Book by David Pearson. You can feel how spiritual that work is when you read it. Not this one.

The images are soothing and aesthetically pleasing though, despite me disliking the industrial and modern style.

This is more a picture book, but it is very beautiful. It shows you different materials for your home, skin care, food that are environmentally friendly. It only took about half an hour to get through.

One of the first décor books I read that specifically extolled the virtues of eco-friendly design; a decade on, the photos still inspire me, but the text is pretty lightweight.
