Really good book it took a while to get into but it's a nice classic to read but it's definitely a mood reader type book, at times it can get boring but I like the way the writer has written in and presented the form of the writing as much as I don't like 3rd person writing it was well written which made me enjoy it more, the story is about a poor guide who looses half her family and does everything she can to get them back.
Solidly of its time - a guide story where the main focus is helping a new member of the company who is poor and working class - and helping her to learn the “right” values. It’s less terrible than it could be because the two girls become genuine friends and they build a proper relationship, but it is very much about helping the poor to be more like us so they can lift themselves out of poverty.
Written in 1949. Very much of its time. A sentimental story in which good deeds are rewarded. Unlike many of these books includes a working class character.
