Instructional Technology and Media for Learning by Sharon E. Smaldino, Deborah L. Lowther, and Clif Mims is a thorough, packed-to-the-seams instructional guide that any educator can utilize. Each chapter focuses on the various teaching elements and teaching with technology. One of the main objectives of this book is to prepare educators to plan, design, and utilize technology to improve their teaching practice, not to replace it with shiny new technology. With educational strategies, Smaldino, Lowther, and Mims provide resources to enhance global awareness, encourage entrepreneurship, and teach lifelong learning skills, such as adaptability, leadership, and responsibility (Smaldino & Lowther, 2019, p. 2). Beyond teaching strategies, Smaldino, Lowther, and Mims include different technology integration that combats educational challenges such as the “digital divide” and resources to support children with disabilities. Smaldino, Lowther, and Mims pay special attention to including resources to differentiate instruction for all types of learners and learning needs. For example, “children with mental disabilities have a greater opportunity to learn when presented with highly structured learning situations” (Smaldino & Lowther, 2019, p. 4). Smaldino, Lowther, and Mims suggest that “structure compensates for ill-structured prior knowledge that decreases students’ abilities to incorporate messages into atypical mental constructs (Smaldino et al., 2018, p. 4). Overall, Instructional Technology and Media for Learning meets the mark as an instructional, compelling, relevant, and practical resource. Educators interested in learning or improving their use of educational technology would find value in this text.
I look forward to including various resources from this text in my teaching practice.

A great resource for teachers and future teachers to understand how to use technology in their classrooms. It is packed full of tips, illustrations, and ideas. I used it to teach a college-level educational course. The only downside is that technology has improved so much since the writing of this edition, and I hope they put a new edition out soon.
