Dark Inheritance

Rate this book
A serial killer is on the loose and a prominent doctor discovers she is not the person she grew up believing herself to be. These seemingly unrelated characters find themselves drawn together by an ancient lineage.

Detective Doug McKenna is baffled by a series of bizarre killings that have shocked the city of Toronto. All the victims have had their throats brutally slashed, yet there is little blood at any of the crime scenes.

Dark Inheritance questions the concept of good and evil and looks at how an ancient predisposition for evil might be genetically passed from generation to generation.

Author - born and raised in Sydney, Australia but now lives in Toronto, Canada where his two children reside.

P.B. Lawson has always been fascinated by the apparent paradox of ‘man the animal’ and ‘man the higher being’ and has woven this issue into the plot of ‘Dark Inheritance’. During research for the book he had extensive conversations with two convicted murderers, affording him, he believed, an insight into a killer’s mind.

An avid sailor, P.B.Lawson has navigated small boats across the Pacific and Atlantic oceans and through the Mediterranean Sea, experiencing the exhilaration and terror of three hurricanes during his voyages.

Interestingly Freaky Mystery

Interestingly Freaky Mystery

I don’t know that I would recommend reading this one right before bed! 😂 The book reads so real that you start to think you could be the next victim. Is Clinical Vampirism a real thing? I don’t think I really want to know if it is...

I really enjoyed all the twists and turns and all the different characters throughout the book. One minute you’re down a path you think you can predict where it’s going and then it completely surprises you!

I really enjoy mysteries that always keep you guessing. Stories that keep you entertained and regretful to have to put the book down, turn off the lights and try to go to sleep. This book certainly has all of those qualities and, if you enjoy a good mystery, this one is a great option for you!

A very dark and twisted thriller full of mystery and intrigue. There is a serial killer on the loose and Detective McKenna is intrigued and plagued by the atypical killings happening in his backyard. This book is full of interesting yet complicated characters struggling with identity, vulnerability, trust, and searching/avoiding the truth. Premonitions and old papers found in her parents' home forces, Stephanie, a prominent doctor, to reevaluate who she is, all while being drawn to the history in these old papers/manuscript. While this was a long read, I became invested in the story and the characters early on. The short chapters helped move the story along while allowing the change of perspectives between the main characters with the added challenge of intertwining the translation of the ancient manuscript into the storyline. This journey has suspense, intrigue, past and present connections, complicated and flawed characters, attraction, a bit of erotica, violence, graphic depictions of violence, trust and deception.

Detective Doug McKenna is investigating what looks like a serial killer cases. Problem is, with the throats being slashed like they were, where is all the blood? Then there is the doctor who finds out she isn't who she thought she was. These seemingly unrelated characters find themselves drawn together by an ancient lineage. This book is about good and evil and is it possible the evil is predisposition for evil might be genetically passed from generation to generation? Not for the faint of heart. This was a modern vampire story set in Toronto. It was interesting with many twists and turns. A subplot dealt with the question of do the strong and powerful have the right to dominate and exploit the weak to ensure their survival?
It was also hard to picture all of this mayhem happening in Toronto. A city I know well and where violent crime is rare. Over the years I have wandered all over the city and have never felt unsafe unless you are talking about the traffic which is another story.

Wow! Although it started a little bit slow with a big variety of characters everything ended up making sense within a few pages. Loved the language and the mix of history/mythology and science in one. The ending was definitely not something I would have expected at all and I ended up thinking about this book for weeks afterwards. Definitely give it a go and keep reading if you love a bit of mystery!

I could not get thought it and this book made me feel bored and tired from trying to read this book. I really like dark books and this one I couldn't finish.
