The fourth edition of Mastering the Instructional Design Process has been completely revised and updated and is based on the instructional design competencies of the International Board of Standards of Performance and Instruction (IBSTPI). The book identifies the core competencies of instructional system design and presents them in a way that helps to develop these competencies and apply them successfully in real-world settings. This comprehensive resource covers the full range of topics for understanding and mastering the instructional design process including: detecting and solving human performance problems; analyzing needs, learners, work settings, and work; establishing performance objectives and performance measurements; delivering the instruction effectively; and managing instructional design projects successfully.
William J. Rothwell is professor of Workplace Learning and Performance at Pennsylvania State University and President of Rothwell & Associates, a business consultancy.
My copy of this book is extensively highlighted, tabbed, and dog-eared. Not only does the book contain detailed information about the various steps and processes within instructional design, but also provides many forms, templates, and checklists. This book will continue to be a well-used resource, not only in my future coursework, but my work in the field of instructional design.
Great text for new or student instructional designers
I partially read this text in graduate school and finished it after graduation. I think this is a useful text for entry level instructional design programs. I would also recommend this book in hard copy format over ebook as it is difficult to read the many charts and graphs provided. I would also recommend buying the latest edition as the technology information changes. Clearly written and well organized.
This is a solid text, and it provides a strong overview of the Instructional Design process. Not an overly challenging read, I appreciated that the author did not fill the book with jargon.
