For computer programmers interested in the PC Demoscene (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demoscene), this book was regarded as the bible (it was also called "The pencil book").

The book lists many technical details for programming display controllers. This kind of information is now available online, and books like these will no longer be made. I remember browsing through all the descriptions of registers to come up with a new trick. What fond memories!

Another great book from those times is Computer Graphics: Principles and Practice.
