You can do anything! That's the bold realisation that every reader will come to. Because the world might seem like an intimidating a place where no one speaks your language, where no one knows your name and where no one is there to help; but the reality is very different. Travelling solo is empowering. It's a way of seeing the world and having a good time, and realising you really are capable of amazing things. Go Your Own Way is a practical and aspirational book designed to help you take your first bold steps into solo travel, with tips on preparation, planning and safety, as well as inspiring and amusing tales from travel writer Ben Groundwater's own experiences. The book details ten of the best cities to visit, as well as where 'not to go' on your own. This guide will help you meet people, make friends and do all of the things you love in your own company.
This book is a starting point for a young novice backpacker. There are some good tips in what to expect however there are no rules. Buy the ticket, take the ride and discover the world for yourself. Using a reference guide almost defeats the point of the expedition itself. Travelling is an incredible mind broadening experience that will test you in many ways. There are no rules. Play the game. Be yourself, have a open mind, use your wits and create your own luck.
Read this with the hope of inspiring me for my next trip, but yet I got nothing. Very basic in its recommendations of places and also how to plan and prep to go.
Great tips for anyone with itchy feet! For aspiring and seasoned travellers keen to explore, near or far, solo or in company. Plenty of true accounts and ideas to get you started.
Did not finish because advice is essentially directed at young male backpackers who stay in hostels. That isn’t the experience or information I’m looking for.
