This series is part of Scholastic's early chapter book line called Branches, which is aimed at newly independent readers. Alexander has just moved to a new town where he is about to uncover all sorts of monsters! He finds an old notebook with the word "DOOM" inscribed on the front cover. The Notebook of Doom, which Alexander now holds, contains top secret information about monsters! In this first book, Alexander goes up against spooky balloon goons--unique and twisted arm-waving balloon guys! This book is full of humor, engaging black-and-white illlustrations, and of course . . . monsters!
Awesome series! My 6 year old loves these. Not as scary as the title may suggest. Great illustrations on each page. Quick chapters. These were fun to read aloud. My son stays engaged with each of these stories and begs me to read them to him throughout the day. We are wrapping up #13 right now, and are looking forward to starting the Binder of Doom series. Thanks Troy Cummings for this wonderful series. I'd recommend these to any K-2nd grader.
My 5 1/2 year old LOVES this book series. They are actually quite enjoyable for parents to read as well! We gobbled up all 13 books in one week and my son even made his own illustrated journal like the main character! I highly recommend all the books in the Scholastic Branches series.
