After spending a childhood writing reams of poetry and fairy tales, Michelle studied advertising and marketing. She spent many years in the advertising and marketing industry and finally decided that the real world was far too boring and took a leap into the fantasy world she currently inhabits...well for as much of the time as she can get away with.
Michelle enjoys writing for children because she loves the idea of tapping into their vivid imaginations. She has written stories rich in imagery and has sown seeds of positive thinking throughout her novels as she believes that a positive attitude and believing in yourself will get you anywhere in life.
Michelle also loves doing school visits to share her love of reading and writing with children. She does in-person visits as well as remote visits across the globe. If you want to book her for a visit message her via her website or Facebook page.
This book is a magical adventure full of excitement, friendship, life lessons and love. Being set in South Africa brings an extra dimension to the story. The characters are all special and easily relatable to for a child (Bobo is my favorite!) and I especially liked the fact that there is no real darkness in the book. The baddie is bad for sure, but not, as with some other adventure books, nightmare inducing. This book inspired my 11 year old to start writing. Love, love, love. I urge everyone to read it, adults too.
I loved that this tale was set in Africa. It had a touch of a Colonial feel to it, with English boarding schools and holidays in Africa, but with a modern twist. I think it will appeal to girls more than boys as the main protagonists are girls, and it is good to have female heroes for the readers to follow. Loved their super powers and that they are ordinary kids the rest of the time. Am sure this will turn out to be a very popular series especially in South Africa

This book is one of the most INCREDIBLE, FUN, AND AMAZING BOOKS I HAVE EVER READ!!! When I first heard about the books I thought that they were just old ordinary books, but boy was I wrong! These books opened up a new eye for me, one that I might have never discovered on my own. The author made literal works of art in words! To anyone who loves fantasy, magical lands, or even if not I could not recommend these books enough! Thank you Michelle Sciacca for letting me discover a new!
In our school libraries, the Skydalon series has a devoted following. It is not hard to understand the appeal of the magical settings, which feature a boarding school, a portal into a magical realm and lovable and relatable characters. I never hesitate to recommend these books as the adventures are sure to grab our young readers while anchored in solid values.
My son absolutely loves the book. He was captivated by the characters and just couldn't wait to give me an update on the story after every chapter. Getting young children to read is not the easiest thing to do, BUT when you get an author that is able to keep a child interested, smiling, giggling and excited from start to finish, it is really amazing accomplishment. Thank you.
Michelle Sciacca's Battle for the Bearer of Light is a firm favourite in our school library. It hardly ever makes it back to the shelf! Our Primary School readers love this adventurous and fantastic tale, taking them on a magical journey to a magical place.
This is one series that never stays on our library shelves for very long! Good writing, excellent storyline, and very appealing to children. Even our teachers queue up to take these books out of the library!
Fight for the Bearer of Light by Michelle Sciacca is among the most read books in our Senior Prep library. Our boys adore this thrilling story that takes them on an amazing journey to an amazing land. As a literary treat, I heartily recommend this first book.
My daughters review of the book is that it's a really good read filled with lots of descriptive fantasy which allows you to use your imagination and be a part of the journey with Grace, Bobo and Lindi
The book is a children's adventure and fantasy story. The book features descriptive writing, well-developed characters, and themes of friendship, bravery, and self-discovery, making it an entertaining and valuable read for young readers who love fantasy stories. The children love this book!
Excellent book. Highly recommended. Could't put the book down. Also an excellent gift for children. Lots of positive ideas and values to instil in children in the book's story line.
I read this book to my classes of 10 - 11 year olds and they wanted more. What a wonderfully fantastical read, with values to be learnt throughout the story with Grace, Lindi and Bobo.
Michelle visited our school in 2021 to talk about her Skydalon series. Many boys bought the books, plus we bought copies for our school library. The books are still proving popular amongst the boys and once they've read the first book, they usually come and ask for the next one and reserve it if it's out. It is a fun filled adventurous book and I would recommend it for Grade 4 and up.
Max, a Grade 7 learner at our school, writes the following: "The Epic Tales of Skydalon is an interesting fantasy adventure story. It is not like other fantasy stories which I've read. It has an interesting setting, characters and plot. I would rate this as a perfect 10 out of 10."
Zuhayr, also a Grade 7 learner, enjoyed the series: "The Epic Tales of Skydalon is a book filled with fantasy, mystery and magic. It is a wondrous book that can really make you enjoy it. Michelle Sciaca's writing style is very fun to read. All three books are great. I highly recommend this trilogy of books to anyone who craves adventure, and to any child who wants to read a brilliant adventure story. "
