One of the most engaging biographies by an African leader, Nnamdi Azikiwe's My Odyssey continues to remain relevant in various areas of life.
One key area is journalism, his primary calling.
My Odyssey is a veritable primer on journalism in the two West African countries of Nigeria and Ghana. The issues remain relevant more than 60 years after.
1. Challenges and opportunities in journalism as a profession in West Africa
2. Entrepreneurship in journalism
3. Training and manpower development and preparing the journalist for tomorrow
4. The role of technology and how changes in technology affect and influence journalism practice as well as investors in the business.
5. The intersection between journalism and politics as well as governancce.
6. Journalism and the law
Azikiwe covers all of these areas in some four chapters devoted to his journalism experiences. It is rich in detail and full of anecdotes.
He emphasises the place of training in effective execution of the duties of the journalist and avoiding the many legal landmines. His listing of the various areas in which the laws of the day in Nigeria impacted journalism practice is encyclopaedic and enriching. There is need to compile a similar one for today.
Highly recommended for all readers interested in the evolution and development of various areas of Nigerian national life. I recommend it to journalism majors in Nigeria.

A reasonably fun read for a political memoir. Zik is at least an entertaining showman with a gift for purple prose.
