The third and final installment of the Enchanted series -- a trio of trilogies by three amazing romance writers. These stories all have two things in common: magic and romance!
"All's Fair in Love, War and Demigods" by Wendy Sparrow: Allie Mason isn’t what Donovan Rowe was expecting from a demigoddess of love. Touchy-feely she is not. But just because she is able to drop him to the mat but doesn’t mean he’s right for her--she needs someone less battle-scarred and jaded. However, Allie has other ideas. While a matching site may have set them up, Allie is sure demigod of war Donovan is who she wants. He’s not getting away without a fight and all’s fair in love, war, and claiming your demigod.
"These Resting Bones" by Em Shotwell: New Orleans college student Bradley Murphey works hard to blend into the background, which is easier said than done when you are descended from a cursed line of witches. After helping her sisters cast spells (with questionable results) Bradley would be happy to never work magic again, but when she accidentally kills a man she has no choice but to turn to her hottie best friend and her family’s cursed magic for help. But every spell has a price, and sometimes it is best to let dead things rot…
"Destiny's Dark Light Part III" by Sara Dobie Bauer: The love story of Cyan and Liam comes to its enchanted end. With the identity of the dreaded dark witch revealed, both Cyan and Liam must find ways to deal with the ramifications. War approaches at an ever-increasing pace. Dark witches and white will soon battle on the streets of Charleston. Still, Cyan remains focused on the man she’s come to love. She is destined to protect Liam, but how can she keep him safe and save the world when her powers are barely under control?
Another fantastic anthology from authors Sara Dobie Bauer, Em Shotwell and Wendy Sparrow.
All the stories in the series have been nicely wrapped up. I enjoyed these finales far more than the previous two. I felt it had more grit and tension, there was a real sense of anticipation waiting for the endings and I wasn’t disappointed.
All three stories still had the magic and romance element but there was action, tension, suspense and even an element of horror. I really felt for the characters.
Thank you to Pen & Kink Publishing for the initial recommendation of these short stories. A different take on magic and romance. I really enjoyed them. Highly recommend.
I received a MOBI.file copy of this anthology from the book’s publisher through a giveaway it had on LibraryThing and the following is my honest opinion.
According to Wikipedia there’s a connection between the number “3” and writing:
“The rule of three is a writing principle that suggests that a trio of events or characters is more humorous, satisfying, or effective than other numbers in execution of the story and engaging the reader. The reader or audience of this form of text is also thereby more likely to remember the information conveyed. This is because having three entities combines both brevity and rhythm with having the smallest amount of information to create a pattern. It makes the author or speaker appear knowledgeable while being both simple and catchy.”
This book is part of has several things connected to this number:
THIRD book in the Enchanted Series
THREE authors writing THREE stories, one for each volume. [Sara Dobie Bauer, Em Shotwell, Wendy Sparrow]
THREE volumes with Magic in its title with an increasing intensity [Spark, Ember, Flame]; which also reflects the level of romantic passion of the stories being told.
I felt the stories in this collection gives its readers a wide-ranging array of dichotomic opposed comparisons, such as: love/hate, intimacy/distance, empathy/coldness; which magic playing an essential part with what’s happening.
This causes these stories to have a decent level and wide spectrum of emotions as one reads them, which is why I’ve given this collection 5 STARS.
This is the third novella in a trilogy. I liked this one the least of all three. I didn’t like the fact she killed someone. Yes you read that right. Bradley KILLED someone. Yes he was creepy, yes he was abusing her, but that doesn’t give you the right to kill. Immediate dislike towards Bradley and the story. But there were good things about it too! Even though it had to win me over, I did want to keep on reading, wanting to know what would happen next. It was intriguing! And once the Elder-Witch came, I started really liking it! She was formidable! And it did provide closure for all three sisters, so that was good. Although for one sister, I was abhorred by what happened! In a warped kind of way, it was kind of beautiful as well though. And I wanted to know more about Marchland and Samuel. But there was closure on the important things! All in all, I think this was worth 3 stars.
You cannot read this without having read books 1 and 2. It’s not a standalone. And it’s not sweet! It’s dark and with molest and some horrory moments. It’s labeled as romance with a hint of magic. But IMHO it’s mislabeled, misgenred. It should be: dark magic, with a hint of horror and with a hint of romance. Because the focus is not on the romance, but on the dark magic.
The Enchanted Series by Sara Dobie Bauer, Em Shotwell and Wendy Sparrow is a must read! All three of these authors have various writing styles that flow together. The authors have a unique way with words that enables you to feel like you are part of the story. I also enjoyed that the anthologies represented different worlds but keep the same theme of magic and romance. I was hooked on all three anthologies from book one titled Magic Spark. In book one you experience magic, romance, sisterhood and the importance of family. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on book two titled Magic Ember. Magic Ember was more in depth and built a stronger understanding for the characters and the family dynamics. It kept me on the edge of my seat wanting more. Book three titled Magic Flame was full of unexpected twist and turns. The authors did an amazing job wrapping up the anthologies. You really got a sense of the setting, characters and the family dynamics in each of the books. There was so much emotion in the last book. It was full of hate, separation, death, love, compassion , togetherness, life but most of all magic. I can’t wait to read more amazing books by these three wonderful authors.
Thank you to Pen and Kink Publishing for the arc copy.
If I were to read these three stories again I would like to read the set of three books from start to finish. It has been a while since I read the start of these stories.
Wendy Sparrow's "All's Fair..." is a tough edged romance. There are no punches pulled. Rowe had the idea that a goddess of love would be sweet and soft. Allie is a woman who can take care of herself. She also knows what and who she wants. This was a delightful surprise.
"These Resting Bones" by Em Shotwell was a dark magical experience. Three sisters who never got proper education in their powers have found themselves in difficulties regarding their love lives. While there are plenty of explanations offered as to what happened previously, I would have enjoyed this more if I read all 3 parts as one book.
"Destiny's Dark Light Part III" by Sara Dobie Bauer does give us an abbreviated review of the previous parts before we begin. We see how much Cyan and Liam have already endured and secrets are revealed early in this final section. Dangerous, magical and romantic.
In this third book, there are three exciting stories of love romance, fantasy and various types of mayhem.
Another fated mates / match-making story by Wendy Sparrow - and no, these are not fluffy bunnies, or silly bunnies mating with bears or something. More like gods, goddesses, and demi-gods and goddesses. This time, elements of love and war are matched.
From Em Shotwell, a somewhat twisted witch story. Erratic magic and a family curse lighten things up.
Finally, from Sara Dobie Bauer, the war is on. Darkness and Light battle in out - with fated loves and death in the city streets.
Awesome collection of stories in a nifty collection of three books of three!

An anthology of magic and fantasy. Three authors, each with a different style of writing the intriguing story each of them has contributed here. Demi gods and goddesses in search of immortality or unschooled witches trapped within the darkest black magic imaginable. Very intriguing book.
