Raphael Corsair doesn’t understand his brother’s sudden desire to couple with some huge black guy. Still, staying with Giles at the Montana cattle ranch gives him the opportunity to escape from under his mother’s thumb. Lenora Corsair is dominating and controlling, and Raphael would do anything to get away from her, even learn how to ride a horse and rope cows. To his surprise, the ranch’s owners offer him an office position. The only disconcerting aspect of living at the ranch comes in the form of big, handsome Kase Corrocus. The cowboy makes no bones about the fact that he’s interested in Raphael. Except, Raphael doesn’t consider himself gay. Then why does his prick get hard any time he’s near the disconcerting man? On top of that confusion, why can’t his mother leave him alone?
On a massive re-re-read of Charlie Richards' Stone Ridge world series. As stand alones these short stories and novellas are usually a 3/5 , With talented use of stereotypes, quick short plot arcs and descriptive writing they are fun to read. There is the occasional clunker coming in at a 2 due to gaps and unfinished mini plot elements. However, when read in series, they become a bit more as the world elements and overarching plots add depth.
Raphael, and Kase, made a sweet couple, and I enjoyed reading of how their relationship grows even while dealing with Raph's insecurities. Hank, a blood donor who lives on the ranch, was also humorous, and very helpful in the story. It would be nice if he could have his own mate, or, story some day in the future. I love how the focus is on the mating issues of Kase and Raph, which I find to be very touching. Unfortunately, Raph has a controlling, selfish, psychopathic, and bigoted mother. That woman really needed to be put down, or out of her miserable existence. Ugh. I loved the ending of the story, and how everyone made poor Raph feel welcomed. I definitely loved this addition to the, A Loving Nip, series.
Another virgin (!) human male meets his paranormal mate and offers a token resistance before falling soul and body for the sexy creature. As the beast is a vampire, we get spared the terrible mythological mishmash that sank for me the previous book; thank the god of MM romances for small mercies. Not that this instalment shines in any matter; but it was tolerable, and by Mrs Richards' standards this is no faint praise at all. Of course, world building gets the usual short shrift, the locale could have been a privy or a brothel for all the descriptive care it evinced from the writer, the dialogue routinely verges into crazy territory, the way the action progresses puts in one's mind the occasional desire to gouge out an eye or too (seducing your skittish rabbit of a mate through horse-riding lessons, really, Kase !?), the mental state of both major characters fares no better than being described in cringe-worthy style, and the secondary cast includes entirely too many silly twats (Hank was close to being unbearable) plus one major harridan as the villain, Raphael's crazy mother (whose screeching actually has much more teeth than her working against our paranormals, for even as she eventually becomes an arsonist it is all very underwhelming and almost perfunctory, for the bad reason that Mrs Richards cares for nothing but the resolution of her amorous plotline). In so many words, this book is only marginally less atrocious than its immediate predecessor; whence my rating. One star and a half rounded up to two.
Rinse and repeat. Human boy (virgin!) not aware of paranormal get confused when he starts having sexy thoughts about a man, but he’s not gay. Paranormal (vampire) pushes the issue until human gives in. Vicious loud villain makes an appearance and puts the human in danger. She is promptly dealt with and then the couple go off to have mind blowing sex and a presumably happy ever after.
Same, same, but different... Still bearable, which can’t be said about some of the other books in the Stone Ridge Universe, hence the 3 star rating.
I love this story. Love, support, friends, and fabulous ice cream!! 🍨. Another link in a chain that I wonder if we have seen all of. Fate has something up her selves. What's up ??
This is a Very sweet book in a Wonderful series. Love that the book link in with the wolfs of stone Ridge , A paranormal love and Kontra's menagerie sieres . Just wish the books were longer.
