Quaid is a college student and lives around campus. He wants to spend the holidays back home with his parents. He would love some company while driving his car to his home town and he posted an ad about that. He never expected Jess to be the one whom will accompany him. Jess and Quaid grew up in the same small town, but they never have been friends. They actually don’t like each other. The drive home isn’t a very pleasant one and they are both happy when they arrive home.

Jess and Quaid run into each other multiple times and Jess’s dad even invites Quaid for a party at their house. Quaid doesn’t mind it any longer to be near Jess, but Jess still isn’t too happy about Quaid’s presence. When they are back at college, Quaid and Jess keep running into each other. Quaid can eventually convince Jess to give him a chance and they become friends before falling in love.

I loved Quaid and he’s the star of this book. He’s sweet, strong, smart, genuine and friendly. He’s a man of his word. When someone needs help, Quaid is there to help (or support) someone. He’s always there for Jess. Jess is kind, caring and a little stubborn. Jess is very close to her big family and her friends. They are everything to her. She hates to disappoint them and that’s why she hides that college isn’t what she expected.

This book is my third read by the author and I liked this book a lot. That epilogue put a big smile on my face. This book is a slow burning romance and a great enemies to lovers romance. I liked Jess and Quaid as a couple. There was some push and pull from Jess. I got frustrated with Jess sometimes, but Quaid always made it better. I loved most secondary characters and I can’t wait for the next book in this series! It sounds so good.

“Dude, all you gotta do is walk up to her and ask the honey for her number. Damn, it’s not rocket science, you know.” Jason laughs at me while putting his arm over my shoulder. “What are you talking about?” I slap his arm off and take another sip of my coke. “I’m talking about the babe that
is rocking it up with the blond hottie and that you’ve been checking out for the past hour.”

How I loved this sceenes! Waiting for the caveman to kick in.

“Please don’t. Not yet,” he hushes, but in my foggy haze, I don’t know what he’s asking of me. I’m too scared to move, terrified I’ll do or say the wrong thing. Paralyzed in Quaid’s embrace but
before I contemplate on what I should do, Quaid leans in closer and presses his plump, soft full lips to mine, and the world around me stops rotating around the sun in that moment.

This is the third book that I've read by this author and I really love the way she writes. Wonderful characters and such a great story. Ines managed to captivate me from beginning to end. She has written another brilliant story that I highly recommend.

It’s Christmas eve, I am sitting at my desk sipping on a strawberry daiquiri, ready to pour my heart out in this review. Ines Vieira knows how to hit ya right in the feels. This lady is crazy talented, she blows me away with each book she writes. I loved her debut, When Life Gets in the way, such a beautiful and touching story that had me glued to my seat the entire time. But Ines has completely out down herself with the second book in the series, When Sh*t Gets in the Way. I didn’t think it was possible, but I fell instantly in love with her characters this time around. I was already familiar with certain characters, so to me it felt like returning home and reuniting with old friends.

I hate to give too much away in my reviews, I much prefer you to experience the story for yourselves, with no influence from me. Therefore, I won’t go into detail about the story, but will recommend reading the books in order, too avoid any spoilers.

When Sh*t Gets in the Way is Jess and Quaid’s story. Jessica “Jess” Silva is on her way home for the holidays to Plymouth. Having arranged to carpool with a fellow student, Jess is shocked when she realises that the person she has to spend the next few hours with is non other than “Golden Boy” Quaid Stevens. Jess and Quaid are mutual enemies after a past failed date, that ended with Jess flirting with one of Quaid’s friends. The last thing either of them want is to be stuck in a car with each other, making small talk. But the couple are soon going to get even cosier when Jess’s family tell him of their worry for their daughter, who comes across detached and depressed from being all the way away in NYC. They ask Quaid to keep an eye on her and become friends. Much to Quaid’s displeasure of the idea of keeping tabs on Jess, he also can’t deny his fascination with her. Is he just doing it as a favour to Jess’s father, or does he have his own motive to get closer to Jess?

One way to find out. GRAB YOUR COPY!! Released on BOXING DAY.

When Sh*t Gets in the Way is such an amazing read, that I could happily return to the beginning and start over. I am so excited for the next books in the series, and more from Ines Vieira in regards to Tylers Ranch. I feel so giddy, and so incredibly fortunate to call this lady my friend. Seriously if you haven’t read her work, you are missing out. I cannot praise her work enough!! Reading When Sh*t Gets in the Way was the best way to end this year, and I can’t wait for more to come in the new one.

As a reader there are so many things that attract us to a book, maybe the cover, the synopsis, etc,but for me this Title had me at HELLO!! It's something I would hear from my father as i was growing up, so suffice to say, I had high expectations and i was NOT disappointed.
The author has written characters that feel very real, and they very quickly found their way to controlling my emotions and captivating me, urging me through the pages for MORE !!
Quaid Stevens, on the outside is extremely Hot & Gorgeous !! hell yes !! He is without a doubt the whole package and more! Star Football Player, popular, but as with life, there is so much more to the person.
Jessica Silva, is one sassy girl, she has no hesitation voicing her opinion, she's confident, she's always had a hidden crush on Quaid, but she also doesn't like him, he's the stereo Typical Jock, and she has mostly always avoided him in High School. Now at Uni and Jess isn't to happy that they are thrown together when Jess is left with no option but to accept a ride home with him for the holidays.

This couples love story had so many facets, each with their own views and issues, each with their own ideals and each with very different lives. I loved their story so much, the way they dealt with their growing feelings, the way they dealt with learning that they both held pre conceived ideas of the other. The attraction that was steaming out of the pages!!! HOT HOT !! This author gently wraps you in a bubble of mushy warm huggy love and at the same time rips away at your heart. It's not just a fantastic love story, its a realistic story of life and families, that not only leaves you warm and cuddly in the love and romance bubble, but also makes you think how we all can so easily judge so much from the outer cover and how much can change if we delve into the pages!!! I CANNOT WAIT FOR MORE FROM THIS AUTHOR!

I'm so so glad I read this!! This was my first ever read by Inês Vieira, she's a Portuguese author who happens to write in English and I was just so happy about it!

I loved getting to read bits and pieces of my own language in a book, it's a pretty rare thing and it was totally awesome and oh so funny because Inês sure made it so.

I enjoyed everything about this book and I cannot wait to go read the first book in the series. That's right, this series has two books, and probably many more to come. Thank God for that!

You can read this book as a standalone but I'm positive you're gonna want to read them all, so it's probably best to read them in order. The only reason I didn't was because I simply didn't have time to read both before the release day of WSGITW, since I have so many other books I need to read by a certain date and also a lot of studying to do. But 'When Life Gets in the Way' is already on my January tbr and it will probably be one of the first ones I read once I get all the urgent arcs out of the way eheh.

I really loved Jess and Quaid's story so much. It was super funny and entertaining and also pretty sweet too. I loved the way it was written and I really enjoyed the plot and the characters. Everyone had an important role in the story and I cannot wait for them all to get a book, fingers crossed for most of them. I'm also very curious to read Cass and Isac's story, it's gonna be a sweet and very emotional one, seriously cannot wait. I love me all the angst!!!

Jess was the sarcasm queen and oh my god I just loved her to bits! She was super funny and she was honestly an amazing person despite all her initial bitchiness towards Quaid, she cares about everything and everyone and she is a great friend. Heroine goals right here.

Quaid was also a very sweet guy and he became more and more so throughout the book. Such a sweetheart. His only fault was hiding such a big secret, and not having the guts to lay his cards out when he should have.

All the side characters were amazing and I just seriously loved this bunch a lot, except for the two evil souls of Olivia and Hector obvs.

I highly recommend you guys pick this book up, it was honestly so good!!!!

Somehow, in all the craziness and insanity that has inhabited the last month of my life, I forgot to cross post this review from my blog onto Goodreads and Amazon until now AND I AM SO UNBELIEVABLY SORRY!!!!!!

A huge 'Thank you' goes out to Ines Vieira for the e-book!

"...don't tell me you're not mine when everything that I am has your imprint on it."

I loved it even more than the first! Quaid and Jess are just so cute and lively that I read it in a day and a half. I like that the timeline overlaps with the last few chapters of When Life Gets in the way because I think it adds something more to all the characters and helps make their lives so much richer.

Jessica Silva has a lot going on in her life. Her cousin Isaac is gone and her uncle Hector is still hell bent on proving that he's the most disgusting human being in a hundred-mile radius, she isn't handling her first year at Columbia as well as she hoped, and having to spend time with Quaid Stevens is absolutely driving her up the wall. Sure, she had a thing for him in high school, how couldn't she when he's so seemingly perfect? But, Jess believes perfection is a beautiful lie. And she can't stand liars. Quaid comes from a family obsessed with perfection. It doesn't matter if your life is a shit-show as long as you keep up appearances. He isn't used to letting people get close enough to know about the skeletons hiding in the closet or the ones running around in broad daylight in expensive high heels. But, Jessica Silva has him thinking about changing his mind. That girl is a force of nature and he'd better strap himself in so he can ride out the storm. She wants to see imperfection he's trying to hide, but can he survive showing her?

I absolutely adore Jess! She's so fiery and passionate about everything she does that you can't help but feel yourself get ready to take up arms with her. She's smart and funny in a way that keeps the normally quiet Quaid on his toes. They challenge each other in the best ways possible. He pushes her to be all that she can be and protects against those who try to kill her spirit. In turn, she teaches him to relax and enjoy life without the constraints his grandparents try to put on him. Together they could be unstoppable. But, can they make it through all the lies and hurdles or just give up and call it quits When Sh*t Gets in the Way?

Although this book is targeted to a young adult audience, I, a grown woman of 42 years young, didn’t think I was going to mentally survive this book. Yes, it brought back a lot of memories for me, most of them I would rather forget. I too once gave my heart to someone who in the end, only ripped it apart and walked away. But that’s my story to tell. This is Jess and Quaids story.

While the two main characters have a history, it’s not a very pleasant one. And during the long drive back to their home town for school break, their feelings of hatred towards each other is intensified. Or are they??

With the promise of looking out for Jess once they get back to school, Quaid makes it his mission to be wherever she is. And soon enough, they both realise what they have is a once in a lifetime love. A love that totally consumes you. It’s the air you breathe.

But one of them has a secret they are not yet willing to share.

Will this brand new love last past a few months?

My heart broke for both the main characters, so much so, I had to place the book aside for a few days to recompose myself, to see the story until the end.

I loved Ines’ first book in this series, but this instalment just went up a notch. This is going to be one great series.

"When Sh*t Gets in the Way" is the satisfying homecoming tale of small-towners, Jess and Quaid. Despite going high school together, they were never friends, but, of course ran into each other casually and had reasons for stepping around one another. When they unknowingly sign up for a ride-share from where they go to college (and lead completely separate lives) in NYC, an awkward conversation is unavoidable. On one hand, they weren't really friends. On the other hand, their indelible shared history of growing up in the same small town is hard to ignore. From this, a brilliantly-told tale about what led them to NOT being friends unfolds.

From here, a delicious complexity emerges, one that is skillful in its nuanced accuracy. All is told through what we see next--them back home, once again among their family and friends. Vieira takes us on a poignant journey that brings the reader face-to-face with what it means to be young and caught up in drama of someone else's creation, and pulled in directions that decide loyalty, friendship and a host of other things. This story has an undercurrent of emotion that will get you completely invested in these characters, not to mention an outstanding supporting cast. This is the second book in a series but can be read as a standalone. Five stars.

After reading the first half I was sure that I would rate it 4-5 stars, however in the second hald things took a turn for the worse.

I can't stand plot twists where everyhting bad happens because of the lack of communication.
So hardly 3 stars, I'm disapponited.

When Sh*t Gets in the Way is Jess and Quaid’s story, again another book written from the heart with emotions all over the place. It was great to meet again the Silva family and to find out more about these two.
It’s so good to read some of my own language in the book and this is something Ines incorporates on her books very well.
Ines Vieira was able to surprise me until the end and I loved the way she writes.
Can’t wait for the next one!
