How would things be different if Nathaniel and his mother had been in Seattle early enough to put him in California the same time as Andrew? What if their paths had crossed back then? What if Andrew's first promise wasn't to Aaron but to Nathaniel?
so ok it's been a year since I read All for the Game for the first time and there hasn't been a day that I haven't thought at least once about the story and the characters. this fic? It was something I needed and didn't know. see andrew and neil building a life together and fighting everything and everyone? better than therapy. I coud basically see 5 years of their relationship. i didn't know i needed a universe they know each other before palmetto. oh but i did. they really build a life together. i’m sooo happy.
One of the most incredible fics I’ve ever read 🙈🙈🙈 It’s so beautiful, it corrects everything “bad” that happens in the AFTG trilogy. I’m not saying that’s it’s better, but after suffering so much with the trilogy I think we deserve a fic like this. I’ve just love it so much.
Don’t think otherwise, it still hurts. In another way... here you suffer more about Neil than Andrew, but in the end...all is fixed.
I’m a sucker for time travel! And re exploring Neil and Andrew’s relationship where the Foxes get to see Andreil without their development is also beautiful!
Ever since finishing the All For The Game series i've slowly been making my way through some fan-fics for the series, and this is definitely the longest one i've read but also one of my favourites. This is long, so long that it took me about a month to actually read it. It is fantastic though, I loved this whole take on the series. It basically explores the idea of Andrew and Neil meeting earlier on in life, and Andrew's first promise was one made to Neil instead of Aaron. At times the characterisation does differ from the books, but I think this made more sense and worked due to the difference in circumstances. For the most part though I think the characters were spot on, and I just really enjoyed it.
Huh, didn’t know we could review fanfic on here. Good to know, as this was my third foray into that previously forbidden (more like foreboding) realm. I got a bit obsessive after finishing the ‘All for the Game’ series, and thought I’d try for something new— yet, this fic was a bit much. Long, it satisfied my fix, but poorly-paced and messy characterization (too much talking, aggression, domineering attitudes— more of a dominant/submissive thing, which didn’t fit the original characters for me).
[2.5 stars] It started out good for me, but towards the 25% mark I felt that Andrew & Neil were really out of character. Also? 1,800 pages? I love long books, but that doesn’t necessarily equate to loving long, unnecessarily drawn out books.
I never thought i would say this but think i like this fic so much better than the original series. like the length was amazing, the fact that they met sooner and those days when it was just them were so cute. I thought it was slow burn but wasn’t disappointed when they got together sooner because they grew sm in there relationship and OMG everything was just so perfect. The characters were written so much like their canon and i loved how Andrew wasn’t on drugs and had his canon drug and off drug personality mixed together so it wasn’t too manic and over the top. OMGGGGG THIS IS THE BEST AFTG FANFIC EVER!
first aftg fanfic i've ever read, so it will always hold a special place in my heart. i absolutely love the idea of this story, the writing is engaging, and fun, the characters feel accurate to me, even in the context of canon divergence, but the pacing is a bit off, it takes quite a few chapters to really get the ball rolling, and there are some scenes that are not believable to me. i still skim it every now and then, rereading my favorite bits, so i do think it's a staple for the old andreil genre <3
I LOVED the beginning of this fanfic, watching Neil and Andrew meet as teens and having them go from friends to lovers was so cute omg. There is a fair amount of suffering though and I had to stop at around the Nest part (I'm not too sure when I stopped), I couldn't handle watching Neil go through all that again. Will finish soon (hopefully).
