A companion to the bestselling Torchon Lace Workbook, these 28 lovely patterns are all centered around a sampler. Includes concise at-a-glance guides to techniques and terminology.
It starts with a large sampler in the form of a mat, with a rectangular centre and an edging.
The mat at the centre is worked in meandering strips, with 24 four legged spiders over a torchon ground (CT pin CT). The meandering strips are linked together by sewings. This central mat includes twelve types of spiders, each type worked once in cloth stitch and once in half stitch, with each spider surrounded by a half stitch frame.
The outer frame instead is a sampler of many different grounds. The sampler is worked with 20 pairs and 30wpc thread. With all the variations, this sampler is very enjoyable to work.
The rest of the book presents many pretty patterns that use the stitches in the sampler.
As all Bridget Cook books I've seen so far, this book too is richly illustrated and well photographed, with exhaustive technical drawings. It is presented in four languages, and the written instructions are essential, but the technical drawings add all the details needed. While the book is self contained, I think it may be a challenge for the absolute beginner.
