Rebecca Livermore has scored high with this book “The Blogger’s Quick Guide” and to prove it, she starts off with a powerful intro: “If you have a business, you need a blog.” As Rebecca says, a website without a blog is just static noise; it needs that blog to bring it to life, so it is breathing [in the online digital sense].

Rebecca gets right into the content by answering the question: Why WordPress? There are 8 reasons why bloggers and website developers should be using WordPress.

Chapter2: What is the difference between hosted and self-hosted blogs? Find out in chapter 2.

Chapter3: What is the difference between a hosted/self-hosted sites? Find out here. This is a critical question when deciding to sign up for hosting.

Chapter 4 gets into the good stuff: how to set up your site for success. Here you will learn to choose:
• The best hosting package for you
• The length of commitment
• How to remove additional services [and which ones to purchase]
• Installing WordPress
• Logging into the portal
• And other basic details!
This chapter is essential for beginners just setting up their site. Don’t skip it!

Chapter 5: Connecting your domain name. In this chapter Rebecca walks us through the easy steps to hook up your domain. Although she uses GoDaddy as the example, you can use this for any other company as they are more or less the same when it comes to the process.

Chapter 6 is where it gets FUN. You get to choose your WordPress theme. This is essential to having a good-looking site that functions and attracts readers/browsers. Chapter 7 gets into posting and the page basics we need to know. Here readers learn to add pages, categories, create a menu and then, start to create content.

My favorite part of the book is chapter 8 on WordPress plugins. Rebecca gives links to the best and most frequently used plug-ins used by most people using WordPress. Then, chapter 9 covers good strategies on blogging efficiently and how to save time with such strategies as the Pomodoro Technique [my favorite]. There is also a link to blog templates that are very useful when drafting out the blog. It makes things much easier.
Moving on there is a section on how to write efficiently and, exercises for training your writing muscle. I love the writing rituals section where Rebecca provides the benefits for having writing rituals in order to improve blog writing skills.

So the bottom line is this:
I think this is a great book for people who are looking to start up their blog and get it off the ground. In most cases it is starting something that is the most difficult but, Rebecca walks you through the steps in very easy-to-follow instructions. She provides excellent suggestions for WordPress themes, apps, and navigating the backend of WordPress. I know it can be difficult to start something when you aren’t sure where to begin, and ‘The Blogger’s Quick Guide’ definitely covers all the bases.

Rebecca has a wonderful way of explaining things. Her intelligent guide is clear, cogent, and systematically presented. Even though I've been blogging for a few years, I wish she had written this book years ago. It helped me understand the craft of blogging and also guided me toward positive adjustments for my blog. Thank you, Rebecca!

I highly recommend this to anyone who seeks to understand how to blog or how to improve.
