Jacob, Jake, Jackass, Pervert and Creepy Bastard are all names this character answers to and deserves. I have been waiting for this story a long time and it was well worth it. Told in his own words almost like a biography, with a few timely inserts by the author herself here and there.
Despite his behaviour and manner my heart still found itself wanting to love and comfort him. After all the boy was abused when still to young to understand even that that was what was happening. Ok I know all the boys were subjected to a certain amount and suffered in their own ways as a result, but Ray singled Jake out, told him he was like himself and pretty much trained him to be what he turned into. He didn't stand a chance to turn out normal, somehow living through all that his brain wiring got twisted and wrecked. He felt the way he behaved towards women was perfectly normal.
The only love he knew was from his brothers, so he felt betrayed by them as they all started relationships. The bond with Dakota was even stronger, the I have it first agreement made when they were still kids Jake didn't understand that wouldn't always be the case. Jake had never had a woman like him let alone love. He never gave them a chance, he never felt it himself either only mad crazy lust. I did think for a brief moment in time that it might happen, but it was just a heartbeat then gone.
I knew at some point there would be a day of reckoning with the brothers, but when it happened it was a shock. Lourie I can only imagine how hard it was for you to write this book and its outcome, you really pulled it off. Ok I would for Jake to be saved somehow but honestly, fantastic story you did him proud. No matter how bad he was I still cared and I felt sad for him, that is the mark of a great author to still manage to raise those sort of emotions about a character that is so deeply bad and damaged. You gave him the only ending you could.
