Deviant: A Comedy

Rate this book
Imagine "The Catcher in the Rye" as written by Chuck Palahniuk. Imagine 50 Shades Darkest, Rules of Attraction, and stand-up comedy in a blender. Imagine your darkest, deepest desires finally revealed. "I can't get the taste of c*m out of my mouth," the novel begins. "Deviant" tells the story of Donald Pratt, a sex-addict stand-up comedian and storyteller on a road trip to win back his girlfriend. He either doesn't care that his words are shocking or doesn't understand why someone would find them to be. His sexual misadventures include having sex wearing a Winnie the Pooh costume, a girl obsessed with slavery role-play, and the time he got hit in the face with a Game Boy during an experience. Hop in the passenger seat as Donald regales you with personal stories of his sexual awakening, his relationship with Natalie, his cross-country journey to win her back, and the Torture Museum he stops at along the way.

I have to say this book did not work so well for me. I have no problem reading sexually oriented material, even when it's "Deviant" (get it?).

The writing was good, clear and descriptive. I can find no fault with it. I just didn't find the characters sympathetic and wasn't pulled into the story.

It may have something to do with my mood at the time I read it, but the comedy aspect kind of passed me by. I had a hard time sticking with it. So I guess all I can say is that it was okay, not great, certainly not awful, okay. Enjoy!
