This is a handy book for anyone interested in using Ubuntu as their computer's OS. Written for the non-geek, it's certainly understandable by anyone who is casually familiar with how a computer works. I must confess, I did not read the entire 434 pages - I skipped the chapter about Firefox (I'm a Firefox user already), GIMP (gonna read an entire book dedicated to GIMP), and a few other sections that are now obsolete in Ubuntu 11.10.

It's best to use the book as a workbook - read the material, work through the steps, etc. I would've given the book another star, but it is, after all, a technical manual (not my idea of edge-of-seat-reading). Kudo's to Gagne for interjecting enough humor to make it palatable to us non-techies.

So pick it up. Try Ubuntu out. Perhaps you'll discover, as I did, that Ubuntu will meet your computing needs better, faster, and with more security than Windows or Mac. (Did I mention it's free...Ubuntu - not the book...unless you borrow it from the library.)
