Simple and straightforward description about Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh as an organization and its founder and chiefs over a period of time. The narration dispels certain misgivings about the organization. The constitution of the RSS clearly states, "In consonance with the cultural heritage of the Hindu Samaj, the Sangh has abiding faith in the fundamental principle of respect towards all faiths"

Meh, just an encyclopedic version of the organisational structure of RSS, their procedures, constitution, sakhas, camps and bio-data of their chiefs - doesn't really delve into its vision, achievements, controversies so far.
On the bright side, the author promises to come out with its sequel, 'The RSS & BJP'; hopefully that should be good.
The only reason that I have given it two stars is that this book is very theoretical in its approach. Though the organisational structure and the geographical demarcation of the group has been adequately highlighted, the book book felt like a damp squib at every corner
Nonetheless, there was something new to learn and clarification on some aspects. The most important one was regarding Shakhas. I always used to believe that shakhas, since the hindi meaning of the word is branches, were the branches of RSS where people used to get enrolled and were then taught about the ideology of the group and so on. But shakha is an event which happens both in the morning and evening. It exactly happens for an hour and consists of various activities which includes playing sports, discourse and praying. The morning session is for the old people and evening session is for the young people. Another unique aspect of this event is that this happens daily without any holiday round the year. Now weekly and IT shakhas have also been introduced so that people who have moved abroad can join the gatherings as well. The ideology behind organizing such an activity daily is that it creates bonding amongst people and character of human beings
The saffron flag of the organisation also called Bhgwa Dhwaj is the deemed mentor of the whole organisation. Dr K B Hedgewar, the founder of the organisation was of the opinion that if he accept the supreme mentor ship of the organisation then that can lead to tussle of power in future. So in order to remove any possibility of the same he always preached that the flag is the supreme power in this organization. Since then, it has been an extraordinary achievement of the institution which has never had a tussle for leadership and not a single case of corruption has been declared against any sawayamsevak or sarsanghchalak
It'll be a very brisk read and an eye opener in many ways. Especially regarding the communal picture that is the popular imagination of the group among people
Excellently explained since inception of RSS.RSS is an uncomparable institution and is required for Indian culture.Mr Arun has pointed all the aspects and covered it.
The author has not been able to decipher the psychological disorders created by the trainings of swayam sewaks, the various masks the organisation wears , the strategies and the objectives of such an organisation . The dangers it poses against the modern republic 9f the day
A good start if you want to learn more about RSS. It gives clarity on the fundamentals and structure of RSS. But it should be considered as just a starter. You cant know about the ideologies of RSS and its members by reading this book, it doesnt give a critical or a 360 degree view.
