Landa Cope opened my eyes so wonderfully about the way the Old Testament is relevant today for Christians. The way God intends to be in every part and domain of our lives is amazing and so simple to understand, yet we fail at it.
Def recommending this from now on.

Great insights in the reading of the Bible as a whole and not just the parts that fit with our cultural filter. Nevertheless, even though the content is very encouraging to broaden our horizon when it comes to discipleship, I regret some shortcuts taken by the author. Like saying that the great influence that Europe has is thanks to christianity, which is partially true but doesn't take in account that european also stole a lot of resources around the world in ordrer to become (and stay) powerful, and this kind of nuances are very much needed. Also, reading this in 2023, makes this book feel a bit old. Good book but not sure I would recommand to everyone. If your interests are into influences of the Gospel on nations, I would highly recommand Dominion by Tom Holland of the The Subversion of Christianity by Jacques Ellul.

Write a review...Very eye opening book. It deals with looking at how the Hebrews established their community in the Old Testament. It then looks at why the church today is not establishing community where they are at.

It takes the view that evangelicals are very good at spreading the Gospel but shy away from doing community transformation stuff. Whereas liberals are very good at doing community transformation or "social" work type things but don't share the true Gospel.

Her argument is that if we are to truely finish the Great Commission we must do both that Christ intructed us to Lobe God and Love our Neighbor.

That once a church s established within a community then it should begin to transform the community it is in by reach out it's neighbors with the Gospel and with ways to work with in the community to meet needs through education, the family, government, arts etc.
