Who Moved My Standards? Joyful Teaching in an Age of Change: A SOAR-ing Tale

Rate this book
A touching parable that inspires educators to tackle rigorous new standards with renewed confidence and enthusiasm. The book includes the SOAR (Students' Opportunities for Achieving Rigor) Rubric, a companion tool to standards-based lesson plans. The rubric drills down the differences between traditional (old economy), student-centered, and real-world applied (new economy) techniques for gathering student evidence.

I was forced to read this for a workshop for my job. This is possibly the most ridiculously useless book I have ever heard. First, it says the phrase "nut tree" about every fifteen words. Second, they want to charge $15 for a book that can be read in about 10 minutes? What a waste. You want to know what the book says? Here's a summary: things change, kids learn more when they work together, and there will be a point when teachers are no longer there. Avoid this book at all costs.

An innovative approach to the biggest problem in our changed educational environment (We're 17 years in, I'm not calling anything 21st Century any more. The future is present.). Masterfully told through a parable! Looking forward to this book being the springboard for our school becoming a Demonstration School for Rigor.

Interesting thoughts on modern teaching. Simple story to cover the new taxonomy of teaching/learning.

Off to a good start then I felt like the momentum just stopped. Looking forward to seeing Michael Roth this week at a workshop to learn more!
