This book, Module 1, explores the nature of skilled reading; the progression of reading development; the reasons many children do not become good readers; the influences of biological, linguistic, environmental, and instructional factors in learning to read; and the components of effective reading instruction.
The Challenge of Learning to Read gives the basic steps of how a student learns to read. The book gives tips on how to teach reading and how a teacher can figure out how to help a student that needs intervention. It also gives a description of RtI and what the Tiered Instruction Model is and which students should be in each tier.
