Philipp K. Janert, PhD , is a programmer and scientist. He is the author of several books on data analysis and applied math and has been a gnuplot power user and developer for over 20 years.
Paid for itself within the first couple of chapters. I've stumbled through with Gnuplot when I needed it, without bothering to understand anything about it. This is the book I needed to get a bit more of a foundation in what the hell was going on.
Worth noting that the e-book versions have colour figures throughout. The printed version just has a few.
Although I don't like Gnuplot (prefer matplotlib), this book is wonderful not because it walks the reader throught gnuplot syntax and features, but more importantly because of the worked examples and tips on how to build graphics, these tips being not focused on gnuplot.
I find the concept of parallel graph coordinates very appealing.
