Well this is a very interesting and broad book. Personally I decided to read this book because in my current job we are having a infrastructure migration from one commercial virtual infrastructure into one based into OpenStack. I'm not a DevOp guy so the knowledge here will be not my day to day work, however as a developer I feel the need to understand the overall architecture and the inner working of this software ecosystem, to understand to which extent this will impact with my work and the projects I'm involved with. I must confess that I was not expecting such amount of interesting stuff. Bear in mind that this book don't follow a "how to" style we saw in many technical books. Instead of a tutorial based approach the authors gave a systematic and complete approach to the needs, the features and trade offs involved with virtualization from the ground up. All the layers of cloud computing are analyzed, put in context and all lots of pros and cons were drawn. The team that write the book is very knowledgeable as well as pragmatic. I recommend this book to all developers and devops that work in large companies and need to tackle the complexities of cloud based computing. The book is divided essentially in two parts. The first deals with fundamentals of cloud computing, virtualization and the set o software that we call OpenStack. In the second part of the book the authors create a OpenStack based three tier application and apply the principles and technologies to each tier to max out scalability fault-tolerance, high availability and, where possible, elasticity by auto scale up and down of server instances. Again I fully recommend this read.
