This is an amazing paranormal story filled with dark and intriguing characters, suspense, and non-stop action and I am loving this author! Every family comes with its fair share of drama, but this is amped up to a whole new level when your family consists of demon hunters. Ruairidh's father was a demon hunter and was recently killed by the very demon he was hunting and Ruairidh has returned home to live with his family and avenge his father's death. There is a ton of family drama that takes place and between that and the action I was on the edge of my seat wanting to see what would happen next. This book definitely kept me interested and I love the way this author writes. I am very much looking forward to reading more from this author in the future. I highly recommend this book and this author to anyone and received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Ooooo, Demons! Slayer of Demons and a love interest! To be so young and to choose between staying with your mom and brother or heading off to adventure with your dad! Ruairidh becomes a demon slayer like his dad. When his dad dies Ruairidh goes home to his mom and brother. Times are difficult and only get more so when Ruairidh falls for his brother’s best friend! I so enjoyed reading about Ruairidh, Angus and Islay. However, the cliffhanger!! Really???? I need more!

Book 1

This was the first book that I have read by this author so I had no idea what to expect. This book ends on a big cliffhanger, so I'll need to read book 2 A I didn't read the blurb, so I went with the cover and I'm not sure the cover really connected with the story because there was no half naked couple in the book.

What if you possessed the skills to dispatch a demon whenever possible? What if you couldn't put those skills to use because you're afraid of upsetting your family? You can't seem to let go of the fact this innate ability exists within you, however. No matter what happens, you're determined in doing away with every demon you see.

Ruairidh deals with the above each and every day. He's also dealing with school, his brother, and a girl who stirs his senses at every turn. It's not easy being who he is. Nor is it easy keeping the fact that he's still hunting demons from getting out. If his mother were to ever know, she'd have his head for sure.

A wonderful start to what promises to be a great series, H. G. has given us a very diverse story. It kicks off with Ruairidh dealing with his father's demise, as well as having to move back home. Things between him and his family aren't fine and dandy. His family life is hectic, something the author shows us at every turn.

Ruairidh is young man who's tormented by his father's death. He's also conflicted about what he has to do. He also has to take into account that he's living a double life. The boy wants nothing more to do away with the demons that took his beloved father from him. Despite the odds against him, however, he does his best his to come out on top.

I love the way H. G. has crafted the difficult relationship between Ruairidh and his brother, Angus. The two do not see eye to eye. Most especially when it comes to the lovely Islay. Though things between them aren't hunky-dory, the two are still willing to be there for one another when needed. Sure, things later on take a different turn between them, but that's the beauty of having someone you go could to when things go south. No matter what happens, Ruairidh knows he can count on Angus.

H. G. has created a quite believable world where the characters find themselves in situations that sometimes seem hard to overcome. We get to see their strengths and vulnerabilities as they deal with their everyday lives. Ruairidh has shown time and again that he will do whatever is necessary to keep those he loves safe. He's also not afraid to take matters into his own hands.

I can't wait to see what H. G. brings us next with book two of the Reaper Born Trilogy. Will Ruairidh be able to get out of his current predicament, I wonder?

The cover (as nice as it is) not quite fits the book since the main characters are only just grown-up but feel more like teenagers plus it starts of as a love triangle, something I normally don't like. So I was on the edge if I would like it. Thankfully I tried because this one sucked me right in. Both Ruairidh (thankfully the author tells us how to pronounce that directly) and Islay are very deep characters I absolutely fell for, they have some of the typical growing up problems, very nicely writtten as is their social background and their development, how their feelings grow ever stronger. His brother is a very conflicted character too but as they are very relatable (even when he gets all childish). The fact that Ruairidh hunts demons, something so absolutely not normal and typical is interlaced into the world everyone more or less knows so perfectly that it seems highly probable that it could really happen, here too. I loved the interactions between the characters, how they grow and overcome obstacles and I didn't like to see the book come to an end... and then that END! Took my breath away, made me look for the second book in the series immediately. Extreme cliffhanger warning!

I received an advance copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

For those who have followed my blog, you'll know I have a soft spot for upper YA and NA paranormal. Because I love it so much, I am extra-critical when I review them. A book that opens with a brutal murder? You've got my attention!
H.G. Lynch has proven that she can write many different genres, but I have to say that I think she does her best work right here, in Red Dagger (and that's saying a lot, considering how much I loved Cursed Rebel).
The characters are surprisingly normal for the plot, even Ruairidh, who really just loves his dad very much and wants to emulate him. I liked the normalcy compared with the supernatural elements. They played nicely off of each other.
Some parts of this story were a bit predictable, but most of it was just a really fun thrill ride that will entertain anyone over the age of sixteen. The last time I read an upper YA book in this style that I enjoyed so much was Lord Loss by Darren Shan. It really left we wanting more from these characters.

**ARC RECEIVED FOR HONEST REVIEW**
I'm a big fan of H.g's writing and this didn't fail to impress me either. The way she writes paranormal is brilliant. She can pull you in with how she describes settings etc and creates some seriously sexy main characters too.
Even though i found this slightly slow to get going once it did it was BRILLIANT !!
Ruairidh has moved back to Scotland to be with his mum and brother Angus after his dad is brutally murdered by a demon. He's desperate to avenge his father's death but doesn't count on falling for his brothers best friend Islay.
Islay is trying to juggle looking after her baby brother, school, and tending house while her father is working and when she first encounters Ruairidh her reaction is the same as every other female's reaction, but she can sense there's more to him than Angus has said.
This causes some problems for all concerned.
I really can't wait to see what happens next as it ended on a cliffy and had me saying out loud "WTF!"

I loved this book right from the beginning. The writing is amazing, you're getting as smooth in the story as you can't imagine. The characters are lovely and realistic (as realistic as a cute and sexy demon hunter can be ;) oh you'll love Ru!). Each of his or her own is caring and getting under your skin the one way or the other. The right amount of romance, broken hearts, action and drama is a perfect mixture, so your rollercoaster ride of feelings is guaranteed, believe me! I just love this book! And this "evil" cliffhanger...I really hope the next book will be out soon. Please?! Can't wait to read on!! Highly recommended!

Red Dagger is one of those books that keep you reading till the book is finished , Fabulous story with Demons and Demon hunters, Ruairidh is a hunter with his Father in Ireland until a demon kills his father and he returns to live with his mum and brother, He wants to carry on hunting demons but his mother wants him to go to college and lead a normal life, He meets Islay and falls hard for her even though he leads a dangerous life, the shock ending is fabulous and i cannot wait till the second book comes out, A really well written story well thought out and executed, a must read for anyone although it's probably aimed at under 21 yrs,

Dark, Dangerous & Delicious

A diabolically twisted tale of murder, demons, sibling rivalry, breathtaking attraction and love lures readers into the jagged, nail biting, heart wrenching world of Red Dagger.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. H.G.Lynch has outdone herself in book one of The Reaper Born Trilogy.

The only thing left to say after I ended up dangling by my fingernails at the ledge of the most shocking cliffhanger ever is….. WHEN IS THE NEXT BOOK COMING OUT!

When Ruairidh's father is murdered by a demon, he moves back in with his mom and brother Angus. His brother doesn't seem to like him and his mom just wants him safe. She's worried he'll die the same way his father did. Both Ruairidh and his father are demon hunters. Will Ruairidh and Angus ever make amends or will things get worse when Ruairidh is attracted to the same girl Angus likes? Will Ruairidh be the same once he learns the truth behind his fathers death? Loved this book and I can't wait to read the next book to find out what happens next!

Loved the book and characters! Ru sounds totally hot! Ru is a born and breed demon hunter that wakes up and finds a grizzly discovery, after that he returns to his mom and brother. The adjustment isn't an easy one, with his brother hating his guts, no demon hunting, new school, and a budding relationship with his brothers crush. Can he get the vengeance that he desires and build new relationships.... Read and find out! Warning there is a major cliff hanger at the end! Great start to a new series!

Congratulations on such a superb read. Five stars are definitely deserved for this brilliant story by H.G Lynch, that has left me wanting more, much more!

I had forgot how much i enjoyed reading this genre until Red Dagger, which has reminded me of my love for it and i will certainly be reading more. Including more work by this author.

I couldn't put it down and now can't wait until the next instalment, which i hope isn't too far away.

Well done!

A very good teen/YA paranormal romance.
It was quite slow to get going, but then we got lots of action, fighting and indecision over love or loyalty. The narration is split between Islay and Ruairidh to give us opposing points of view, which gives the story an interesting slant. There is a humdinger of a cliffhanger ending to make you rush to find out what happens in the next book.
