“Ten drops, a hundred drops, a thousand drops, it was raining cats and dogs!”

This is a charming children’s book by Helen Wu who also does the illustrations. The story is basic and cute. Marcus the monkey is on his way home when it begins to rain. Before he knows it, the rain is coming down so fast he needs to find a safe place. As he is looking for somewhere we notice all the other animals and what they do when it rains. Then, the rain starts to slow down and finally it stops completely.

That is the story but the way Helen Wu tells it is fun, the pictures are great and I know children will enjoy thinking about what happens to all the beloved animals when it rains. This is a perfect story for a rainy day, or bedtime. Be prepared to read it again and again!

I was gifted this book by the author for an honest review.

Helen W. Wu grew up in Hefei, China, but now lives in Atlanta, GA. She has illustrated and written this adorable book for very young children and, of course, their parents. She has also illustrated books for other authors in the past. I have done reviews of several of her books. They are all beautifully illustrated. The stories are endearing and sweet.

I am delighted that Helen asked me to review “Where Do They Go When It Rains?”

Where do the animals go when it rains? My son had asked the same question about the birds when he was two years old. Many children ask this question when they are snug in their own houses and look out the window at the rain pouring down.

Little Marcus the monkey sets out to ask the animals just that question. We have met Marcus before in Helen W. Wu’s book, “It’s Time to Eat”. In “Good Night, Good Night”, he is just called baby monkey, but I expect his name is Marcus.

Marcus watches the ants go to their safe anthill. The bees zoom to their beehive.
A caterpillar hides under a leaf. Two sparrows hide in the shrubbery. Three bunnies hop to their rabbit burrow. Squirrels hide in a tree hollow. Marcus goes on to talk to a fox, a mother-bear with her cub, a frog, a mother duck with her babies and a raccoon. All the animals have a shelter plan for the rain.

The story ends with a delightful touch. When the rain stopped and the sun came out, all the animals came out to enjoy a beautiful rainbow.

“Where Do They Go When It Rains?” comes with a free coloring book of “Redy and Bluey”, a book of poems written by several authors and illustrated by Helen W. Wu.

Your children will love this book!

"Rain, Rain, Go Away!"

This is another great bedtime story created and illustrated by Helen Wu, sweetly written in rhyme, with lots of fun. Can fun really be had in the rain? Are you prepared with a raincoat or an umbrella? Marcus the Monkey has neither and is trying to rush home before the raindrops start falling. He meets several different animals along the way who are also looking for shelter. It's really interesting where home is for many of these creatures. Wow, and soon it's going to be raining cats and dogs! Where did THAT phrase come from? Helen Wu has also added another short tale of "April Makes New Friends" as a thank you for buying her book and leaving a review. The two stories are definitely fun to read. Kids will love the colorful illustrations, too. Highly recommend all of the stories written by talented Helen Wu.

I read this book to A and she seemed to enjoy it at bedtime. She liked saying all the different animals that we read about.
Marcus the monkey is on his way home when it starts raining at first it just sprinkles then it really starts coming down. As it is raining Marcus noticed that the animals are all trying to find shelter, but where do they find it at. All animals have their own place ants have anthills, birds have nests and so forth. The illustrations are done beautifully and I do believe that young child will love not only the pictures but learning where different animals go when it rains.
When the rain does eventually stop there is a surprise for all to see.
Great book for young children and especially fun to read at bedtime.

Simple book for toddlers that explores the question, "Where do animals go when it rains?" Children understand that they stay indoors and protected. Marcus the Monkey is taking a walk when it begins to rain. He passes by many animals like the ants, bees, caterpillars, sparrows, rabbits, squirrels, a fox, a bear, ducks and a raccoon. Each shows him a personal hiding place. When the rain finally stops, Marcus has a beautiful surprise to enjoy.

I love the illustrations which a simple and appropriate. Wu cleverly introduces a bit of math by counting the raindrops forwards and backwards. Parents or teachers can use this book to introduce related topics with their young listeners. Perfect for toddlers and preschoolers at home or in daycare settings.

I love the rhyming text, vibrant engaging illustrations, and wonderful animals which children will find absolutely delightful. I also like how the author's tale teaches little ones about various animal habitats and incorporates counting in a fun way.

Where Do They Go When It Rains? is an entertaining tale that is sure to become a fast favorite with young readers.

"Where Do They Go When It Rains?" is a children's book by Helen H. Wu. It is a great story for bedtime, or when you want to sit with your child and read them a story. This is about a little monkey who gets caught in rain. He notices that there are other animals also out in the rain, and the ways they are dealing with being rained on. It is a cute adventure and the kids will enjoy following along by looking at the pictures in the book. Very enjoyable, and great for younger kids.

Where Do They Go When It Rain? is a cute book that rhymes about different animals taking shelter when a rain storm comes into the area. It is a good story to start a discussion with preschool children how different animals seek shelter in storms in different places. My preschool class enjoyed it and wanted to hear it again, which means they liked the story.

I have always wondered where many of the animals go when it rains. This book tells about a monkey who is headed home when it starts to storm. He wonders the same thing. As he heads home he sees many animals and watches where they go. Great book for curious minds.

The rhymes are terrible. While sometimes the words actually rhyme and meter is completely off. Also there are typos that a little good editing could have caught.
